Own and shoot a blr 7-08:
Triggers are heavy.. Issue at range but not when hunting. Holds 4 in the mag, one up the pipe if that's your thing. Recoil is softer, really nice. If you reload, the chambers are tight. Mags limit the length that bullets can be seated. 20 inch barrel, and thin. Don't be surprised if you get 1.5-2 inch groupings at 100 yards with factory shells. Good tight woods shooting kind of gun, can reach out too. I limit shots to under 250 yds myself.
Mines picky when it comes to reloads. But found it shoots 139 grain Hornady interlock btsp the best for groups. Wanted it to shoot 140 accubonds, but have not found the magic combination yet.
Ideal gun for the area I hunt, fields, bush, cut lines. I do own a bolt action 30-06 that I like more than my blr 7mm08.
Have not shot moose or elk with the blr. Did whack some deer and a good sized black bear with it though.
I don't think of the blr 7-08, as an " only gun a guy needs" especially after trying many different reloads with it. But it's fun to shoot. Just like my bolt more. Seems to shoot everything well I put down its barrel.
