Anyone use Titegroup in 44 magnum?

TG is a fast powder good for making mild target loads.

H110 is good for full power. It does not load down very well if you want a less than full power load.

A more flexible powder is 2400 or 4227.

Could also try Trail Boss if you are looking for something soft. A nice light poofy load. Pushes a 240gr cast out at about 960fps muzzle velocity in my rifle. Never chronographed the 629 when I owned one but it was probably around 900 fps out of a 5" barrel. I made both .44 and .357 up for my wife to shoot. I also used 7 - 9 gr Titegroup in the .44 when I couldn't get Trail Boss but she didn't like it much. I have got to admit, it was pretty harsh and snappy. 2400 used to be difficult (impossible) to get so I used W296 and H-110 (same stuff afaik) for full power loads with magnum primers. I never loaded down for myself for any of my handguns so I have no idea what a midrange load would be. I see Ganderite has suggested 4227. Let us know how it works out if you try it.

I tried TG for 44mag. 9 to 10 grns in .1grn increment. My 44 is a desert eagle, so quite different from the usual revolver or rifle.

Long story short: It sucked. It failed to cycle, and the bullet wouldn't stabilize. I tried normal and magnum primers. The difference is insane. With normal primers it would probably work ok in a revolver or a lever action rifle. With a magnum primer it feels more like an explosion than like a gunshot. It probably makes a pressure spike, which is NOT GOOD.

With H110 or IMR4227, the gun will cycle, but only if using magnum primers. With a normal primer I believe the powder doesn't burn as fast. Again, your experience might be different since you don't have a slide to cycle.

I use 8.2 grains of titegroup for my 200 grains bullets. Works great for my Smith and wesson, and marlin 1894. Love this powder.

I have loaded my test rounds and titegroup is out of the equation.

I went with H110 which I had to go buy, 23gr. starting load with a magnum primer.
Should start off at right about 1400FPS with my 240gr plated bullet.

We'll see if I feel the need to add power but I wouldn't think so.
