Just wondering if anyone is using a 28 gauge in the field this season. If so ,what are you using for a 28 gauge shotgun and shells and what are you using it for?

Nope none here. :)
Shells all reloads. Winchester old style AA hulls, unique powder, winchester wads and primers with copper plated lead shot no. 6 and 7 1/2 mainly
Guns mainly the 870 wingmaster with the choke tubes Still have not fired the akkar and some others bought in the last few years
Just no time with everything else going on
Take care

You know it!

I used my CZ 'partridge' 28 gauge on grouse, chukar and early-season ducks. Easily the most-used gun in my collection. I've used quite a variety of brands & shot sizes, including some awesome non-tox handloads from catnthehat for ducks

I took my weatherby sa 08 out grouse hunting for the first time this year and nailed 4 birds using #6 challengers. If the gun wasn't so fancy I would use it more often

Actually used the 410 SXS more this year. I have a bunch of mixed factory ammo for the 28 that i mostly bought a bit here a bit there on the EE. Trying to build up enough survivor hulls to be bothered doing a loading session. The Franchi launches the hulls.....way out there, and by the time action is over ......im a bit better than 50/50 recovering hulls.

Just bought some hulls on the EE. Might break down and load again. Cheap loads is bad news for magpies and crows.

I took one of my 28 gauge hammer guns out one day this fall for grouse. Didn't have any luck that day though. I bought about 30 boxes of Winchester Upland field loads at a good price from a fellow a couple of years ago who no longer had any use for them.

How many 28 gauge hammer guns do you have and what make are they?

I have 2 28 gauge hammer guns. Both are Belgian made. One is a Liege United Arms and the other has no maker's name on it. I have a Franchi Veloce in 28 gauge, the only over/under that I have kept. I also have a couple of Cooey model 84's and an 840 in 28 as well as an Theador Arrizaballaga muzzleloader. I have to say though that those little hammer guns are very light and agile.

Man! I have to get over there for coffee!

Must be nice hunting with the 28 gauge hammer guns. Not something one sees in the field very often.

Rare for sure but there was two 28ga hammer guns that left our area just in the last couple of years. Had my hands on both before they were sold and the prices were very reasonable. One eventually was sold on nutz if I recall right. Know both went to western canada that is for sure where there seems to be a good following
They are cool just not something I am into . I know it is sad but I love hammer guns for yard display and cave hangers. Don't worry nothing of any real value
Cheers
See an old 16ga SXS hammer on the front porch is one example:) Mig welded closed and totally unable to be fired. Plus heavily lag bolted to the step and wall. Things seem to walk down here if one doesn't do that
Reminds me of the good old days growing up when we always had an old sxs in the kitchen. Guess what nobody back then gave it a second look or did it ever jump up and hurt anything or anyone. Imagine doing that today someone would call the swat team in

One thing I have not understood yet is why no one makes a 28 gauge rifled shotgun for use with sabot's. It would be a lot more manageable than even a 20-gauge. Given that the 28 is only .55 inch, it should be fairly easy to design a Powerbelt type projectile, or a sabot to shoot 40 caliber sized bullets. I use a 20 ga. Savage because it's not as bulky as the 12, but I know I'd switch to a 28, or even a .410 (if someone made one with reasonable power and projectiles).
