Anyone working on a retro build

What lower did you use....I am looking for one as close as possible to the original

I used a Colt Made In Canada A2 lower. I pulled it off of my dissipater and put it on the 733 since the color matched a lot better. The A2 lower would be period correct as well.

Nice catch Leg! I had that in mind since the 607 and XM builds I have going need the lugs taken off. Well I guess on the XM some have them milled off and some don't.

I will swivel the mount but I couldn't do it before because of the tailcap on the 660. The 6P that's on its way with a remote pressure switch will be a lot nicer setup and more correct. The mount came off of the Surefire 660 that I bought off of Ebay.

I'll post new pics when its done. Hopefully the XM will be completed by then as well as I'm still waiting on the 607 buttstock and handguard cap to finish the 607. That is still months away.

They still make them, you just can't get them here (non-exportable) - Google Armson OEG. They do work like a hot damn and they have more charm than an Aimpoint - and they're more or less period correct..

Non exportable? Aren't they made in South Africa?

Milarm tried to sell me one of these instead of an EoTech back in '02. Politely said no thanks. Kind of wish I had one though. Most of my rifles have A1 or A2 uppers.

Wasn't the OEG sight used on the GAU and XM177E2? I believe the Colt 733 used the Aimpoint 3000/5000 red dots, at least for operation Gothic Serpent which was the look I was going for.

The Singlepoint was used on GAUs during the Son Tay raid.

I agree that your Aimpoint is more accurate for the period.

I'm sure the Singlepoint is a OEG isn't it? That would be a cool find. I would have to get a reproduced mount for it though and some electrical tape!

Not made in SA anymore - they moved production to the US due to the embargoes of the 1980's. The importer (who became the manufacturer) was a little known outfit with a funny name - Trijicon

I don't believe that's correct. Trijicon was only the importer and distributor. Started bringing them in in '81. Even the ArmsonUSA webpage says that Trijicon was only ever the importer. They may have put the tritium in but I don't think they had anything to do with manufacturing.

Armson still appears to be a South African company that makes paintball gun parts and the OEG. Terrible webpage though.

You may be right - I was at an RSR dealer shoot in the late '80's and the Trijicon guy claimed they were going to produce them entirely in the USA, but that may not have happened.

Speaking of retro (for C7/8 that is) does anyone know what manufacturers (if any) still use notched selectors?

A source for large A2 forward assists would be appreciated as well.

I'm not sure that Colt has ever used them, Chris Bartocci said he had an Armalite one in his 6920 because he wanted the notch.

The one CC semi selector that I tried to buy was plain. I have no idea If they've ever used notched semi selectors for LE rifles or not.
