APC .223 Non-Restricted vs Bren 2 Non-Restricted

I'm not aware of any issues other that the bolt carrier that Lockhart came out with, which is admittedly 'pants on head', but once that is sorted, it should run like an AR.
If quality parts are used in the build, it should prove out to be reliable.

I hate all the lightening cuts they made to the receiver and especially the bolt carrier. There's a reason very few production ARs come with lightened bolt carriers and it's usually done specifically for expensive competition guns. Making the bolt carrier lighter doesn't just make the gun lighter and less recoil, it has tradeoffs and that's worsened reliability (timing of the bolt carrier being out of whack) and worsened durability. Unsurprisingly the bolt carriers broke. Nothing against Lockhart and I appreciate them trying to give Canadians a DI option but unless they come out with a less flimsy receiver set I'm not going go that route.

You're not wrong. It is especially troubling around the trigger pin location - the aluminum there is wafer thin, and putting in the trigger is a delicate affair.

Never heard reliability complaints from the APC owners I know regardless of Gen or round count.

Complaints are more around weight, factory non-Pro stock being mediocre and accuracy being middling.

Interesting that you mentioned that the accuracy is the same. From what I've seen it seems like the Bren's accuracy is hit or miss depending on what barrel you get while AFAIK the APC's barrel is made by Lothar Walther (makes some of the most consistent barrels in the world)

Do I have that right? Or am I misinformed

I have an affection for Lothar barrels because of Sl8s. Maybe I got lucky with my Bren. I have red dots on my guns and not scopes (I have bolt guns for that work) I do not expect semis to shoot with the same accuracy as Bolt guns. That said on bags, being consistent with POA, I have printed decent groups with both.

I do notice that most people complaining about accuracy are shooting FMJ something or Bulk something and complaining they are not getting match results.

The accuracy on the Bren appears to be the sh!ts from what I see shooting against a couple over the summer in Service Rifle matches (100 - 500m).
That is with original and aftermarket, NR, 'match' barrels.
Might be great for 3 gun or non-competitive shoosting, but doesn't hold a candle to others including the APC, even with that rifles failings.
It is light, reliable and great handling, so it gets high praise in other areas for sure - I'm not calling it a turd, but the accuracy is...

Bang on, although the APC barrel is pretty thin and MPI walks out as rounds accumulate and it gets heated up.
The CZ accuracy appears to be ho-hum from the off.

Gen 3 barrel must be thin because the barrel on my Gen 2 is anything but. Not as beefy as an SL8 barrel but definitely not a pencil barrel.

Mine is a Gen 1. Barrel starts at about .82" at the chamber and tapers quickly to the gas block, and post gas block it is consistent at .65".

X95s are over gassed and will work themselves apart in far less time than the APC will. Go watch Administrative results and GT's video on the X95 in the slow mo footage I couldn't believe how over gassed it is..

That is nonsense. I am not a fan of X95 and it has its share of issues and flaws, but this is nonsense. Some of what you said is total misinterpretation of what was said by popular youtuber and some of it was indeed said but it's horse ####e.

1. Wrecking your weapon - it's about running X95 with specific types of suppressors that create excess of gas in the system and require gas regulator. It's NOT about normal operation of firearm. So sure, start running your car with manual brake on and see how fast your brakes go. Having said that, T21 and x95 are newer generations of guns made with polymers and will work themselves apart FASTER than M4A1, which in turn will work itself faster than all-steel Mosin Nagant M91 and so on back to the rocks... Both Bren and APC are even more modern and arguable either more or of same level of being "disposable" than X95.
2. X95 is not "overgassed". It's gassed in the same manner as SKS-45, AK-47, AK-74 and M4A1 gassed - sufficient for reliable operation in adverse condition. Any popular opinions about "overgassed" are always related regular civilian range use, I haven't seen GT or Administrative results making and publishing velograms and pressure charts, I doubt they know they exist.

This thread was destined for the ####-measuring dung-heap from the get-go. I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said, so will just mosey along...

If anything, Bren2's ergo is better than APC. Especially on Bren 2 you have the ping-pong bolt release pad and also the BCG lock/release lever inside the trigger guard. I shot both rifles plenty times. For me Bren2 is totally worth the price and APC is good but the price is a bit too much for what it is.

Guns are best judged on how they retain value on the 2nd hand market, x95s are better than anything b&t makes, they sell 2nd hand for 2500 typically which is retail before tax. Brens sell for 4-4500 which is still to much but this is canada. B&t apcs SIT on the 2nd hand market 1,000 less than retail and still don't get picked up, even with good optic combos, etc. Because those who buy them and actually use them go "oh wait this doesn't work good enough to depend my life on." then the ad sits up for weeks or months as the price drops get updated. APCS are the town bike, they get passed around and used because no one loves them enough to justify the price. APCS are essentially Swiss wk180s/M&M M10XS, mag picky, ammo picky, hex heads working themselves loose. Can't imagine having to use Loctite on my 5500$ rifle, LOL.

100% nonsense. You've obviously never used one.
