Appartment Defence Pistol?

hmmmm do they have to actualy leave the house to consider them not a threat what if they are traped you'd have to consider them still a threat if they don instantly surrender right?

You can have a firearm to defend your livestock from predators (four legged only), and in wilderness areas for animal defense. In either case you can have ammo handy but not stored with the firearm.

The rest of your post suggests illegal activities (traps). Any repeat can cause a permanent ban from CGN. Consider this your only warning.
i beleive you are allowed to have a firearm handy for predetor control. definition of "preditor" theres the 4 and 2 legged kind!!!!!!!!!!!!! you could use a 10,000 volt
oil furnace ignition transformer hooked up to your door
knobs and steel widow bars. turn it on when u leave and go to bed.
i'll bet u forget to turn of just once.

Buy a Taurus "Judge" and use .410 shotshells.

Niiiiice. Looks like fun. A new spin on the term "Hand Cannon."

After reading this thread a few thing jump out at me first ting you should decide is. If you feel justified could you kill another human. If you can't say 100 pecent yes don't use any type of wepon. If the answer is yes than only shoot to kill. Less than lethal may be lethal for you. Second don't ever talk to the police without a lawer anything you say WILL be held against you. You could be totally justified but one misinterpited sentince might be all that stands between you and you freedom. Just a few thoughts.
P.S. I am new to shooting and I am learning so much from this site so thanks to every one for sharing their knowledge

I understand firearms cannot be used in self defense in Canada. These are my thoughts about home defense in countries where legal...

You are wrong here, it doesn't say that anywhere, however, the only "legal purpose" for owning a handgun in Canada is for "Target Practice" for the majority of us. There are circumstances where CFC allows handgun ownership for "Protection of Life" i.e. ATC for Wilderness or Remote work areas.

1) Shotguns take far too much time to load if properly stored unloaded in a safe. I don't believe there is any tactical advantage to a shotgun over a handgun in CQB. IMHO, the best gun for CQB would be a M4 type rifle. With that said, there are far more quick access safe options that allow for responsible storage and fast access at the same time.

Shotguns can be loaded really fast, if you keep ammunition on the gun either a sock or side saddle, AND practice, it works well. Shotgun whilst loading and racking the slide trump a handgun in the intimidation factor. The M4 may be one of the top CQB options but not for home defense because of the potential of collateral damage. He wasn't asking about CQB, but home defense in an apartment. Also, there are many who will say that the M4 isn't the best urban CQB option.

2) Any handgun round that is effective enough to take down someone that is presenting an imminent danger to your life will go through several walls of sheetrock. If a round cannot even go through 6 or 7 half-inch sheets of wallboard, it isn't going to be effective at neutralizing a serious attack.

Not sure what exactly is the point being made here.....ANY caliber will take someone out, it's about shot placement, not how many layers of dry wall it will penetrate...

3) A well placed 9mm shot is going to be just as effective as the same shot from a .45 ACP. If you have to use a gun, use the one you are most comfortable with and train regularly. Hitting your target with a .22LR will do more for you than missing with a .44 magnum.

It's all about shot placement...

If you haven't checked out the Box 'O Truth, they have done some interesting testing with wallboard penetration...

Handgun rounds

Shotgun rounds

Keep in mind, these are all test samples in a controlled environment.

When I lived in a tiny apartment in the city I used this for my home defense:

There simply isn't enough time to tear under the bed, unlock the trigger lock, load the gun and start shooting if someone busts in the door when you live in a one room apartment. Hence.. axe propped up against the bed frame.

I always laughed when my wife would check to make sure the axe was still where it was suppose to be before we'd go to bed after watching a zombie movie. :D
