April Purchases............

Perth Gun Show Finds

A worthwhile two hours:

M38 Swede - a 1900 Obendorf 3### S/N gun. Got my Obie!

M96 Swede - 1917 Carl Gustaf. Got another one of those bloody stickers on the buttstock. I guess acetone will remove it. The others were metal and I had to pry them off. ;)

Also bought 20 rounds of milsurp 8mm Kropatschek and a single round of 378 Weatherby. I pulled the powder and primer, and the darn thing had 120 grs of powder in it!

A good day. Plenty of milsurps (mostly enfields), but I got all I wanted except one, for which I took the dealers name. Met John Belton who has authored several books and dozens of articles.

... send them to me when you get them off..... :D :D :D :D

Very nice pieces Andy, particularly the Oberndorf ........ :)

Took me a long time to find my own 1899 M96/38 Swedish Short Rifle by Waffenfabrik Mauser, Oberndorf a/N. I haven't shot her yet, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks for the stock offer. I have a Tasco scope that will top it off.

As for pics, here we go:

Very nice.... :)

It's a standard m/96 sight equipped with "Västerås Metallverken" Type I civilian micrometer rear sight. The "Västerås Metallverken" is highly valuable on it's own, particularly being a Type 1.

m/38's and m/96-38's as converted by Carl Gustafs Stads Gevarsfaktori 1938-1940, used the sight below marked "T", which was built for the m/41 Torped bullet.

Actually, it's more about geography, not time. ;)

With few exceptions, most quality collector material is found outside the country. The Norma Precision Bore Gauge came direct from Sweden.

Since we're on a Swedish roll, here's some other Swedish accessories in April, that I managed to find outside of Canada .........

From Sweden: 1942 Swedish 6x30 Military Binoculars (Mfg in Germany by Busch, Rathenow)

From the U.S. ....... Swedish 6.5 x 55mm m/14 wooden-bullet blanks for use with threaded muzzle BFA (blank firing attachment) and Swedish 6.5 x 55mm m/12 Kammarpatron (gallery cartridges) for indoor training use at 15 meters. Harmless beyond 200 meters.

Closest I can come to finding a place for this....

I purchased a beautiful second pattern Brunswick rifle circa 1840. Nice British "BO" and broad arrow mark. Tower lock marked 1847. These have the unusual two deep grooves for rifling and are .70 caliber. Not altered and came with a sword bayonet which is correct for the piece. If...I say "if" I knew how to post pics I do have some. Well....it is military surplus isn't it? Fits here better than in the B/P area. Dave

Im just waiting for the paperwork to go through on a Saginaw M1 Carbine, bought from a board member.

Only have two to report in this month.

A 2-groove, 1942 Longbranch Lee-Enfield No4 MkI*, all numbers matching, including magazine, with a 1943 C-Broadarrow sling with a manufacturer that I can't make out (possibly a U, S, something, something Ltd). In absolutely minty shape. Took it up to the range with some 1944 DAC MkVII ammo and got 2" groupings on my first try.

And a Kar98k that I've affectly started calling The Bicycle. A 1917 DWM Gewehr 98 rifle with WWI markings, that was converted to a Kar98k with WWII markings, was rebuilt by the Czechs at some point, and has East German markings.

All numbers matching though, and shoot good, so I'm happy.
