My friend and I decided to make a couple of AR10 lowers. We have made AR15 lowers in the past and thought to give this a go.
AR10 lower

First side milled and all holes drilled. The waste has been cut away and it is ready to flip over and held in soft jaws to machine the other side.

The internals have been milled and it's on the EDM machine having the mag well burned out (it had been roughed out to approx .020/side on the mill)

Now the pictures have been sent away and approved. It then got registered (approved in one day) and sent for anodizing.

Complete Upper with a 24 inch match barrel from wolverine $750.(traded in from the DND) Note the camo job stops about 4 inches from the end of the barrel. It also has an odd thread 11/16 24tpi. Suppressor?

Fully assembled with a magpul stock and Badger ordinance free float tube and Zeiss optics. I also made a Smith copy of their navy muzzle brake.

I mounted the scope this morning, I had it in my parts drawer. Put about 70rounds thru it with no problems. Using plinking ammo I was getting about 1 1/2 inch groups. One compaint is that the trigger is absolutely horrible. A match trigger is next on the list.

Very solid machine work. Yes, that would be suppressor that lived on the end of that barrel. Heres the only picture I have;

and heres a DND Combat Camera one for you. full size here

That picture is definately the upper that I bought. Wolverine said they bought a bunch with brand new bolts. am starting to think it's maybe time to make a fake can just for the heel of it. That's awesome thanks:dancingbanana:

did you have to register the lower before you sent it to the anodizer? If thats the case your anodizer has a RPAL - correct?

I was debating on completing a 80% lower, but finding a anodizing shop to do the hardcoat has been my roadblock.

Im curious about how much that silencer could actually do to hide the sound of a .308...but I guess at those distances its probably about muffling it a bit more than complete silence?..or is so it can be shot with no hearing protection on?? ;)

Very cool thread.

Wow, wish I had a big CNC mill and EDM machine. My poor vertical mill definitely can;t do that caliber of work :(

Nice job :) Home shop, personal business or access to gear at work after hours?

With subsonic ammunition, a suppressed .308 rifle can be almost totally silent (except for the sound of the action). It will function like a straight-pull bolt-action, though. Even with normal loads, the suppressor will eliminate the muzzle flash and make it much more difficult for someone to identify where the shooter is.

Yes, he did register it before sending it to be anodized. The registration was QUICK, BUT, what he didn't tell you is that it took the RCMP 4 months to get around to looking at the pictures to approve it, lol.
The anodizer is the same one that Colt Canada uses.....so, ya, they have an rpal ;)

Typical suppressors lower off the shelf .308 ammo by 35 to 40 Db, Guns & ammo test articles/munfactures web sites/university studies, which is still louder than a .22 long. Glad our gun laws make sence.
If suppressors where used at urban ranges maybe there wouldn't any compliants about noise pollution and they wouldn't be shut down.:D
