AR 15 Mags Tapco vs PMag

I just came up with an idea. If the mags aren't to my satisfaction I am going to hollow them out and construct a mount for my 25 round 10/22 BC mags to fit inside...:p

That being said, I am sure your new cell mate won't mind either. :)
:p I live in California... We are allowed to "Block or Pin" what are referred to as "Rebuild kits"-- which are basically the magazines just taken apart. Once Blocked or pinned, they are permanently modified to 10 rounds.

I would imagine that 5/30 and 10/30 mags in Canada are Blocked or Pinned the same way. As its the only way that at least I can think of to limit the number of rounds in a mag.

Can you elaborate on this? Are you speaking about the latest generation?

TIA
Yeah sorry... I was limited on time before.

Anyway a Breakdown of the Mag's I've personally used from Tapco:

AR15 --- Their First Gen, I purchased 8 mags, all had double blocks (block & a pin). Actually, I'm not sure they were the first Gen, but they were the teflon coated aluminum mags. Anyways, I had issues with 6 or the 8's feed lips bending out. If the feed lips get bent out by even 1mm each it's very easy to start having feeding issues. --I've never even had this issue with crappy Aluminum Mags

AK47 (10rd) --- I actually have 2 of these sitting on my desk right now. The polymer is getting chewed really badly on the rear lug that locks into the magazine lock. Thus, these mags wobble very badly in my AK47 now. As oppose to say my East Block mags which have 0 wobble. Other than that, I like their AK Mags, but I suspect they will only last me around 500-1000 rounds each.

Again, In Tapco's defense they have offered to replace them, an offer I will take them up on. Still, I dont really like the fact they wear so fast and then start wobbling.

SKS (10rd) --- Work great, no unacceptable wear, no feed issues, love them.

But, I cannot speak to these latest .223 mags. If I see a couple for very cheap I'll buy them and check them out. But, wouldn't pay more than a few dollars for them.

Now that make's for a verry interesting project.
But then again I could be talking still out my @$$ :p

Interesting. Thanks!

Sweet, they just popped up on your site! My order has been entered. I took a "chance" and ordered a 5 pack of each the SKS and AR Tapco mags. :D

Fabsports does it again! I put the order on their webiste on the 6th and they shipped it out promptly as the package is out for delivery in my city today! :D This is the third time in the last month or two I have ordered from them and they haven't "prolonged" the shipping yet. SWEET!

you want real testing?

Put a 1.5m pipe on a hard concert floor. Load a mag and drop it with the feed lip headng to the floor. Drop it again on the base.

That is what matters.

I have Tapco 30 round mags for my AK and they have been awesome. 3,000 + rounds through my gun, most with the Tapco mags. Still holding up strong, no wobbles or miss feeds.

I'm wondering if I need to trim up / smooth out the part where the lug on the mag sits on the magazine lock. Right now its just kinda flat. I dunno. I'm hoping its just something wrong with the plastic on these particular mags.

I'd be willing to buy the TAPCOs. Why? They are specifically made for the Canadian market, you can actually get them apart to clean from the looks of things, and they are reasonably priced. Plus Fabsports is GREAT to deal with. Not to knock the PMAGs but I'm sure the TAPCOs will hold up fine to all the abuse they will see on a range, in Canada no less.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have to ask. When will Fabsports be getting in some YHM Phantom flash hiders? :D

So far the Tapco SKS and AR mags I got seem top notch! They insert and come out perfectly. I was very surprised by how easy the SKS mags went in and out.

Still trying to decide if I am going to run them over. :p

Going to try Greentips drop test for sure.

Here's some pics because I never miss an opportunity to post pics :D
