Nice to finally be able to contribute :D - Norc CQ311 with the first batch of upgrades. More on the way.

New to the whole AR thing. Anyone got any good ideas for optics for a fixed carry handle?

Optics on the carry handle gets too tall; optics forward gets heavy. Think about this: http://truglo.com/content/products/firearm/firearm_sights/tfo_ar15.asp

or any of the variations:

I have the middle one (Mounting Solutions Plus) and like it - notice that it can do single-click adjustments, while the others are limited to 180degree adjustments (2.5" or so at 100 yards).

Quite fast for up-close, and for further away you use it like a regular sight.

If you want magnification, that's another story. You're limited to carry-handle mounts, which put the optic too high.

But if you really want an electronic reflex sight, you just put one forward on the rail on a lower-third cowitness mount.

Here is the final (for now) config of the 10.3 Stag. Fixed sights, light, low pro gas block and Redimag. Not much else has been changed since the last pic. Even got the Jack Bauer tacticool man-purse.
It was very cold when I went out this weekend, but I had to try it out.
Cheers,

"done"

I've been shooting this upper and lower for a few years, making adjustments as the learning curve / pocket book permit. For example, burning my face on the black stock on a hot, sunny summer day means going to all tan furniture. Burning my finger on the delta ring means no more magwell grip, VFG instead (some other things pushed me that way as well). Discovering that the EOTech/magnifier combo was heavy, and the dot turned into a triangle (for my eyes) with the magnifier, meant switching to the Aimpoint combo. A nasty experience with a FAB Defense T-POD meant "goodbye", shoot from the elbows instead.

Click on the pics for the big versions.
