AR-15's

I think that's because most Colts are registered as "SP-1", or "HBAR"

Armalites are "M15"

Bushmasters are "XM-15"

and so on.... ect.

I don't think so, when I was on the phone to a registry guy in Ottawa (yes Ottawa, that's not a mistake) he went through a pretty lengthy list of FRT numbers for AR-15 variants. Maybe that figure doesn't include them all but I think it includes most of them.

When semi-auto centrefire rifles were banned in the UK there were 8,172 of them and given that we're only talking about one type of rifle in a country with half the population (albeit where gun ownership is more popular) that CFC figure sounds plausible to me.

In Canada also the fact that AR-15s are restricted and so many other semi-auto .223s are not, that provides a big disincentive to have one.

I realize it is anecdotal but at IPSC matches I go to some people have them but often I encounter shooters who had one but never used it so they sold it. Or I've been on the range on various occasions (usually around hunting season) and people ask me what it is I'm shooting and I'm dumbfounded they've never seen an AR-15 before.

I think on forums like this we end up getting a magnified impression of how many people own them.

As far as I can tell, only from Dlask and at the ridiculous price-gouging tune of $220. If they are only looking to sell to criminals, mission accomplished. Someone would have to be out of their mind to pay that - you can get stripped (and in some cases complete) lowers for less than that.

I'm playing with my new lights. Same rifle from a few pages back. We needed to make this a picture thread again.

The kit is finally finished (except for the front Magpul MBUS sight I'm waiting for, but thats minor). Still a little unsure about mixing it up with the FDE, but can always change that down the road. Let me know what you think!

That's what I'm looking for. XM177 style. Any true XM177's in Canada?

No idea. What I don't know about AR's could fill a warehouse!

Her she is with a new stock given to me by a member of CGN. Needs a little tlc but I'm not complaining. Also probably not representative of a correct receiver extension, but right now it doesn't adjust too easily. The stock has a couple dings that prevent it from collapsing beyond what you see here. Bit of clearancing with a file should take care of it, and need to find a local that can repair the broken loop. Still need a proper grip to complete the retro thing, might take another member's suggestion and reshape this one for now. Also looking for a couple of 5/20 mags.

Yeah, I'm just a recreational shooter. I like vintage type stuff, even if its not 100% accurate.

I hear ya. The weird thing is, I had exactly the stock and grip you are looking for in my spare parts bin, and sold them for next to nothing before I realized their true value. Sigh. She looks very nice. Great job. Where did you get the flash hider?

My brand new RRA LAR-15 (my first AR), purchased from Quester Dec 28 and finally arrived at my door on tuesday, heading to the range with it for the first time tomorrow:

I have a foliage STR stock in the mail from Brownells, other than that, I think the upgrades are complete.
