I am researching the AR 180 B .I read that the lower receiver can break at the front pivot pin.Has anyone experienced this or seen it first hand?Any problems with your 180B?Dave

Happened to me twice . & no the receiver was not slammed open. First new gun out of the box broke in two at the range wile firing . Had aprox rnd count of 300 . Dealer did take it back & supplied a complete new gun . That one lasted aprox 450 rnds , front hinge cracked . sent it back & dealer sent same gun back with new lower receiver . That gun has fired about 600 rnds . But now sits in the safe . I would not bet my life on it . But I have several AR15s so not to worry

It happened to mine. I bought it new, always babied it on opening and it broke anyway. Wolverine exchanged the broken lower for a new one immediately. Once it breaks, there is no fix other than replacement that I know of.

I'm sure that stressing the hinge on opening will break it, but I'm also convinced mine broke because that plastic hinge absorbs all the return-to-battery forces. And it broke when I fired a shot at a coyote on a COLD December day.

So, to keep the new one from breaking I fabricated a return-to-battery lug, installed in on the bottom of the upper and glass bedded it into the lower. No more breakage, there is no more play between the upper and lower and it improved accuracy.

Will Wolverine or Armilite replace my lower if it breaks?Im not the original owner.Armedsask how do you know it was a run of bad plastic?Dave

Any idea on when these 180s were made that have this known issue. I bought one in may and it still has the tags on it. Where is this piece that breaks and does it make the rifle non functional?

Yes, I finished it years ago.

As for broken lowers, the are replaced free of charge no questions asked. That is a big reason why I said it is a non-issue.

Its out of production now................ with Armalite. but there maybe a Canadian made version coming out with an aluminum upper and lower and is modular in that it will accept AR components. ;)

Then it won't be a 180.
I have only heard about cracked receivers and I know it happened but my experience has been great and I beat the #### out of mine.

That's another good point. Although I'm not too worried about it breaking on mine, if it is discontinued does Armalite have spare lowers to send as replacements, or would the owner be SOL until either Armalite starts making aluminum lowers (as they have hinted at), or a Canadian company starts making them?

Even though my 3rd lower has not broken (yet) I'll gladly put money out for a stripped 180B alum lower if they become availible . No need to redesign the upper its basically the same as the AR18/AR180 original of which I had one yrs ago & had zero problems with .
