Ar-180b " let's see your rig"

very sweet armedsask. I Really like the look of the gun. Curious as to what program you use to do your deisigns on. Looks very good. I just started drawing some rough sketch of a rifle that I plan to build hopefully before I die. Would like to try that program. Thanks Mark

I use Solidworks, you can't afford it. I'm not saying that to be a ####, you really can't afford it. It's ridiculous. The maintenance fees alone (that allow you to download updates and patches) are around $1500 a year.

I got it from work.

well thanks for letting me know. and yeah that's a little much for me. I'll stick to paint on microsoft works. keep us updated on the progress. Really looking forward to seeing your new rifle. Thanks Mark

I posted this on the AR-180B sticky, but I'll add it here too:

"I'm at the 2010 Shot Show in Vegas and in the Really Good News department, I stopped by the Armalite booth and spoke with their guys. The official word from their production manager is that the AR180B is not dead and they are currently doing a redesign of the rifle. They are caught up with AR-15 orders from the Obama-effect and now have some time to devote to other projects, therefore the AR180B is back on the drawing board, literally. Speculation from persons outside the company is that any redesign will feature a non-polymer lower and a picatinny rail on the upper. I encouraged them to bring it back, saying us Canucks are eagerly waiting for it. Lets hope."

Armedsask I was wondering when you added the flash hider does the change it to res. Does it matter if it's threaded or does it need to be permanent. Was wondering because I would really like to add Noveske KX3, and keep it none res . Thanks Mark

Threading the AR180B is possible but it is very easy to #### it up.

The barrel of the AR180B is over 18.5 inches. HOWEVER, the barrel is only rifled to 18.25 inches or so. You can't just cut it back to the rifling and thread it. I had to leave 1/4" of the muzzle brake in place to maintain length.

The fact with the flash suppressor attached my barrel is now longer than a factory barrel means nothing.

so you left a 1/4" of the original muzzle brake to keep the full rifleing. because it's bigger diameter then the barrel did you have to turn it down on a lathe in order to thread a
1/2" x 28 . And with the 18-1/4" barrel threaded, without muzzle brake is it considerd non-res. Thank Mark

No he had to leave the 1/4" of the compensator to make the barrel 18.5 and not PROHIB. IIRC.

I had bought a flash hider and had taken my gun in to the smith to get it done. He backed out because by his measurments he couldn't cut at the last port hole and still make it long enough to make the 18.5. I wasn't gonna argue with the guy or argue with him just to have him fuk it up and make it too short. Would look way nicer though.

Maybe armedsask can hook you up with his smith.

Mine looks like #### with the brake off because some of the material that had to be left. Every time I buy a muzzle device I tap it deeper to fit it on there with enough thread engagement. It's a hack job if you really look closely. Not ideal, but it works.

I should have my new MI Quad Handguard later this week...will shoot some pics then...

By the way, I was thinking of taking mine into DLASK ARMS and asking them about shortening my barrel too....one thing at a time ;)

Got the Forward hand guard today....

Now, does anyone have any tips on getting the stock hand guard off?? The instructions in the manual are a bit too vague, and I don't want to break anything??

Ok.....here are a couple rough shots...
