AR Drum Mags

CanstarArms doesn't carry real Beta-C drum mags but the Korean knock-offs. Though it isn't really a such big deal since the knock-offs are supposedly more reliable than the originals!

There are a few vids on Youtube of the knock offs and they are generally reliable until the last 30 or so rounds. Poor spring design I think.

I have always been keen on the Chinese style "wind up" drum mags. they're so simple, made from metal and heavy, but simple.

Every so often you see one on the EE, but they go very very fast. I was thinking about one for 6 hours, but it was long gone by then.

I tried to import some Surefire mags but companies either don't have them or won't sell them.

Brownells wasn't much help either, but I gess it isn't their fault.

Andy,

Thank you for contacting Brownells. Unfortunately neither of these items can be shipped outside of the United States due to DDTC restrictions, as the manufacturer (Surefire, LLC.) is not registered with the state. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you,

Jessica Barnard
Brownells, Inc.

I'd love to get one/some either way

You are lucky you have one to LOOK AT.:p For my taste, I think that on a tricked out AR, this is the cherry on the icing of the cake. Practical?? Duhhh..... Sensible?? I think not...... ( In Canada anyway ) One of the wildest looking rigs you could imagine putting together?? Absolutely.....

It's alot to pay for a dust bunny sure. However I think we can all think of purchases that cost a lot more money, and made a lot less sense. That is if you have it to burn......

I don't agree with the price but i think the drum mag would stellar on my M4

Apparently they're hit or miss. Some work perfectly while others have issues like you said. Too bad I'll never get a chance to do a full function test... :(

I want to go full pimp.

Any drum mag would have to be pinned before it was imported. Nobody, Stateside, is going to do that to a mag they can easily sell at home. Doubt any of the aftermarket mag makers would bother getting the expensive U.S. exporter's business licence either.

http://www.mwgco.com/ - I don't know anything more e.g., reliability.

Thanks, I sent them an inquiry to see who their Canadian dealer is with the pinned 5 round version. If I receive a response I will post it here for anyone interested. They retail for $125.00 US, so if they are not overly inflated here, not a bad price for a cosmetic drum.

That style has been around for decades. I never had one but I never heard bad things about them. My favorite, if I could ever get one, is the Norinco AR drum. Like this, but out of steel.

Also very cool, and the pressurized winding action likely does improve reliability of the final rounds. Trouble is, we cannot appreciate those final rounds....:(

You can if you shoot in the states. Just take it across the border pinned, drill the rivet out, load (stripper clips would be in order) and have fun at your action-shooting match. Re-rivet before coming back in.

Norinco guns can't be temporarily imported into the US on a Form-6NIA, but there is nothing on the form about mags. I assume you would legally be fine, but would be inclined to avoid Norinco for cross-border shoots just in case.
