AR shopping

Update

I ordered it today with some 10 round mags and other goodies. :D

Anyone know if I need regular or cantilevered rings for my 30mm scope? Or do I have to wait until the AR arrives and see where the scope sits?

Yay I just ordered 1600 rounds norinco

Who sells a good bag catcher?

Nice rifle...but damn...what's with the Xmas tree this early? ;) (wife can't even get me to put one up!! I'm such a Scrooge...)

Burris Tac30 I an economical yet good 1-4 scope to look into. Or if want red dot a vortex Sparc. Assuming here you want to stay under 400 bucks with both suggestions of course many higher priced options :)

I'm surprised the you need/want the scope that far back. I am pretty sure my eye would be rubbing right up against the lens. I think most scopes are mounted about at the charging handle or a little in front.

But if that is what works. Have at her and enjoy. Let us know what you think of the brass catcher. I have the same one but I find it kind of a pain so I rarely use it.

Thanks - I may be doing it all wrong and will keep that in mind.
When I'm at the range next I'll ask for some advise on my stance and how I'm holding the rifle. I'm new to all this stuff so I just kept adjusting it until I was comfortable holding it and the scope worked. I could be way off on my stance ;)

Let's say your going to battle over seas. Iraq or some ####. How would you pick a ar? I dOnt want that plunking stuff. I want a real ar that any soldier would be proud to carry

Good choice.

I just did the same thing. The price for what the MRP was just too good to pass up.

The scope and scope mount. It will work fine. But.. personally I prefer the Burris PEPR quick release mount. It's fairly new. Don't get the one with the knobs like that RRA one you have. That being said the one you have will work just fine.

Also your scope mount is backwards. It's designed to go with the forward angle going overtop where most AR rifles have the handguard connecting to the receiver. of course with the MRP that's not an issue since it's a continuous rail. Getting the scope far enough forward is the usual problem which is why it extends forward. I'd switch it up and then adjust your stock length accordingly. The only reason for having the mount backwards would be if you had a rifle with a left side charging handle and needed to keep the area clear so weren't trashing your knuckles when using the charging handle.

Ammo. You said you were shooting 22LR. Well as with the 22LR the right ammo is critical. You've scoped the rifle so finding the right ammo will be even more critical. Give 55 PMC bronze a try. I've had some very interesting results using this non match grade ammo in rifles. If a rifle likes it, I've had match grade ammo results. Also the price is right.

I also went with the 16" barrel. 14.5" does lose velocity. 16" is the best overall length if your rifle isn't specifically for CQB stuff. Most police use a 16" barrel for a patrol carbine since it's more versatile. Now that also means it's less specialized so you're at a disadvantage in many areas. But still it's a good compromise.

Good luck. Again nice rifle

Really? Doh. I'll spin it around and see if I can still get eye relief to work. This setup is temporary anyhow - this scope is going to go on my Savage TR and I'm going to get a "real AR" scope for this rifle.

It's 5.56/.223 I have a case of 5.56 to use up :)

What scope is that's and where did you get it? Also the bag where from?

Scope is SWFA Super Sniper fixed 20x42 I picked up from a private seller on Ebay. It's going on a Savage TR I'm just using it until I can save up money for another scope.

The bag is also from ebay, from SOG Armories.

What about the vortex 1-4?
I love zoom and it's weird to me AR scopes are so low?
