AR sight for 3 gun

I like Aimpoints, Comp ML3, M4. or Micro.

If you want magnification you can add 3X magnifier in LaRue pivot mount (although obtaining the mount could be hard)

do most matches have ranges that won't require magnification, or short enough where magnification would be detrimental?

You'd have to look at your local matches to see. Where I am, the matches and ranges are such that magnification just isn't required. When I shoot in Michigan, it's helpful, but still not required.

What do people recommend as a "typical" sight for 3 gun using an AR?? red dot? 1x-4x ???

Thanks

You do realize that an optical sight on an AR, or Shotgun, will put you into Open for everything, just thought I would throw that out there, in case you were unaware.

At the Barrie 3 Gun in the Fall, the EESA crew was doing a good job of hitting a Clay Pigeon at 60 yards with Iron sights, that is the most difficult shot that I have witnessed yet, other than the 300 metre Hail Mary target at the EESA 3 Gun in the Spring

And while I'm just a single voice in the choir, that strikes me as wrong. Surely there has to be a simple way to have each segment of a three gun match as a stand alone match.

I am petty sure the individual disciplines are calculated per firearm used, but the use of any optical sight on a specific "Gun" gets you slotted into "Open" for the tournament. So, go one, go all, as far as the Tournament is considered.

Umm

That is exactly what happens.

WINMSS is set up to do just that.

You are scored in each event as you shoot it.

However if you are open in 1 then you are open for the tournament. It is the only way to do it and be fair.

Was aware but didn't think about it too much.. it's a good point to ponder..

No not really.

ideally you would want to pick those divisions in which you think you would do the best at.
The tournament score is the totality of your percentage in each division scored against everyone else that is in your tournament division.

In theory one could make stratigic moves to have a better tournament result.

Say you noted that there were no GMs in Standard and you normally shot Open but there was a few GMs in Open

Say you thought that you might get 85%% std but only 70% in open

you would be better off to shoot in STD to get 85% to add to your tournament score instead of the 70

Math never lies............
