AR Style Shotgun - opinions and options ...

It's all relative, I see similar arguments made within the "hunting and sporting guns" guns. The guns are made to shoot things and beats throwing rocks at same target. You use the same logic as those attempting to remove certain firearms from the market based on looks and perceived function.

No, I do not have a prejudice against the looks. What I am saying is that I can take a 120 year old side by side and shoot better at flying targets whether sporting clays or live birds than someone handicapped by having a Derya-style shotgun. Because the sporting gun is purpose-built for shooting flying objects. Go ahead and say I threw you under the bus because that's your mantra. Check my posts - I never threw any gun discipline under a bus. Fudd-taunts... nice. See why there are different forums?

I'm not saying you have thrown anyone under the bus. I don't own one of these shotguns. My point is, these type of shotguns are quite new on the market and look all new fangled different and stuff but some want to buy them and use them for hunting and sport. Perhaps it's not as effective as other shotguns for the intended purpose (perhaps they are just as effective the difference being user errors) but that argument can be made for any shotgun on the market relatively speaking. If these AR style mag shotguns came walnut stocks, polished wood grips, and the mags were engraved with a deer head or a dog or something of that nature that would be a completely different animal for some and inclusive into the "hunting and sporting" forum would not be questioned. It's effectiveness may be however.

These are the same types of arguments used by those wanting to ban certain firearms. I just find it ironic that's all.

Living in a “controlled hunt” WMU, shotguns are as synonymous with deer hunting here, as they are with fowl. So to me, such a gun seems perfectly at home in the hunting section. I’ve hunted deer with a shotgun my whole life, but I’ve never once tried a 3 Gun game or whatever. I figured the hunting section would be a more familiar place to discuss these firearms.

I must say, the cool reception here is not what I’ve come to expect from my fellow nutterz.

Thanks for clarifying, Jaylegger. I get what you're saying but no, engraving is not going to redeem this gun.
KJ, always appreciated your posts.
I think the 'modern shotgun' on market today is not my thing but give'er if you have a practical application. The receptive audience already exists in black and green.

It seems there's lots of purists on the forum this weekend. Fat old guys with beards who have just learned to use that new-fangled internet gizmo. Same guys who think that a shotgun is only one they got from old grand-dad on the farm 90 years ago. Same guys who complain about young people using their skeet range. Or that brag about being veterans so they can wear camo hats when they were only REMF's.

On a positive note, in another 10 years or so these fat old dinosaurs will be dead and gone.

Cannon

Many of us are not fat, do not have beards, and have no issues with anyone young shooting skeet on the same range, but we realize that the owners of this forum have decided that there should be multiple shotgun forums, and we choose to post under the correct forum for the type of shotgun that we are discussing.

As for the wrong forum, sure the Op probbaly put it in the wrong place. Yes, he might get more responses in the black shotgun forum. On the other hand, lots of people just hit "new posts" rather than cruise individual forums and click on what interests them, so what forum isn't really a big deal Oh well, not the end of the world.

There is a shotgun only zone near where I live, when I hunt those areas I used to take a pump gun, now I will take one of these shotguns. I'll also throw one in the truck or side by side for grouse. Why? It's fun and they work well. If you are potting a few grouse while driving on the way back to camp after deer hunting, it's a great option as you can exit the vehicle, pop in a mag and you are good to go.

Good here, also.

Many large creatures that would be happy to eat you, out there. Bear, wolf, cougar. I can tell each time I'm out, what had tracked me by looking carefully on my way back.

Makes the application good to have a mag of birdshot in case of fools hens, and another mag loaded heavy for predators/carnivores. Haven't had to use it yet, but have been inside of 20 yards of all those species, the cougar had cubs, too.

You need to be smart in the bush, here.

On another note, if you want a cool reception here, just bring up handgun skeet.
