AR upper in 7.62x25

Do you know of any mag for a pistol in 7.62x25 that takes 10 rounds???

There may be an upper AR in the development stages right now.
It's a blow-back type chambered in 7.62x25.

I wonder if any of you know about a pistol mag
that takes 10 rnds of that cartridge.

EDIT TO ADD:
It is not the main topic of this thread,
but after more research, I think that
the blow-back wouldn't be a reliable and robust option.
The gas-op (DI or piston) would be the thing to do.
A blowback in this cartrige would be too brutal for the rifle.
Just to have an idea about the recoil of that cartrige,

If 7.62x25 will work in a 38 Super 1911 magazine (single stack 10 rounder), that would be one way to go. Everything else out there is 7 or 8 rounds.

*EDIT* The max length of the 7.62x25mm is 1/10" longer than max on the 38 Super... I have no 7.62x25mm rounds here to check in the 38 Super mag but now thinking they won't fit all that well.

9x23 Largo is ideal.

You may have a point with the 38.
I will try few makes of 1911 mags,
because some manufacturers may choose to limit
the mag lenght (from rear to front)
according to the mag well dimensions, not the cartridge itself.
We'll see.

I didn't find a mag to take 10 rnds so far,
so I couldn't come up with a solution for this.

I tried few mags, no luck.
Essentially, there are 3 problems so far:

Cartridge length.
Eg, 7.62 is too long to fit in a 9 mil mag,
at least in the ones I tried.

Mag body width.
Eg, most double stack mags are too fat
and would not fit the AR mag well.

Mag lips opening (that's the hardest problem).
7.62x25 has a very tapered case, and that causes the cartridge
to be reasonably held between the mag lips at the rear,
but kinda lose at the front, where the cartridge diameter is smaller.
Cartridges may come out of the mag in your pocket (pouch, whatever).
(but in the gun, the cartridge will be ok and held properly,
Joe Dlask already has a solution for that).



So, from what I tried:
Glocks – body too fat.
Some 1911 – the lips problem.
(I will try the 1911 38 / 9 mil mag).
Llamas - is there any Llama in 9x21 that takes 10 rnds?????
HK – mags in 9x21 are rare and expensive.

I will drop it it in Joe Dlask's lap,
but I will keep trying.

38 super and 7.62x25 shown at the same length in reloading manual I have. I recently tried fabricating my own mag for that cartridge for beretta storm and may attest regular double stack mags do not hold tokarev rounds very well. Mag will need front to be either tapered or have some kind of inserts or impressions to prevent rounds from getting jammed inside magazine. Maybe easier to experiment with single stack tokarev magazine with some kind of outside plastic or aluminium spacers on both sides etc

I have done extesive research, and there is not another mag that will take the Milspec 7.26*25. I look at several pistols, and discussed the idea With gunnare over at ARMCO.

At this point the only commercial mag that will take the cartridge are the mentioned Norinco mags.

Just out of curiousity do you have a boatload of 7.62X25 ammo you need to burn off ? Why wouldn't you go to a 9mm carbine

If your reason is you want more zip than 9mm offers, keep in mind that you can set up a 9mm carbine to run 9Major loads through it...safely

I drive a 124gr out of a 10.5" carbine at over 1550fps

7.62x25 is really inexpensive, accurate and performs much better out of longer barrels (ever seen the fireball at the muzzle of a tok?).

That is my hope, as you and DAR701 say, the 38 super.
I am not concerned of what can happen in a double stack mag,
because the mag I am aiming at is the 1911, single stack (10 rnds???).
Also, chances are a double-stack mag
would not fit the AR15 mag-well.

As said before, right now, the surplus 7.62x25 is one of the cheapest
centerfire ammo around here, about 200 bux for about 2250 rnds
(for how much longer, I don't know).

I haven't seen that price as being 'in stock' for awhile. I know Frontier has some but listed at $329/2280rds.
 
Sorry to resurect this thread but you got me interested with your post in the Krink thread in Red Rifles...

I don't have any 7.62x25 on hand but a quick Google search showed that the overall length of the round is 34mm? Is this correct?

I used calipers on the two 9mm mags I have (Wilson ETM and Mec Gar) and on both the overall length of the inside of the mag body is approximately 0.5mm too short to fit the OAL of the 7.62x25.

As a side note, if you could use 9mm mags the Wilson ETM's would be the easiest to covert as the spacer is made out of polymer. The Mec Gar spacer is made out of steel. Also, the Wilson ETM's are 10 rounders.

The lips would hold the tok cartrige at a funny angle.

They grab the cartrige at the rear - ok,
BUT: because the tok is tappered and it has a small diameter in the front,
then the cartridge stays very much "nose up",
and it may come loose and get out.

If you form (re-profile) the lips, then it is no longer a pistol mag
for the cartrige it was initially designed.

The Colt Delta Elite in 10mm would probably hold 11-12 toks or so (wild guess).
