AR upper with no forward assist

How many soldiers need to disagree with you before you open your ears and stop telling the growing line of us to get back on the short bus?

If you need me I'm going to go start a thread comparing the C6 to the M240B and see how long I takes you to chime in there.

For the love of god tell me that isn't really this TDC fellow? If THAT'S what is telling me "how I roll" I will honestly loose my ####.
 
TDC is an internet Joke, i have seen those pics before, Oh my god, that is shocking. Well he has a right to his opinion just like anyone else...

Also during night time when you are tactically cleaning your rifle and making zero amount of noise is paramount, and the difference between life and death is on the line that feature is useful. Also when your AR has fired such a high round count that the BCG is completely covered with carbon residue and you don't exactly have time to put some oil in there that BCG can slow down to the point you will have that problem where striking the forward assist can seat that round in the chamber properly.But usually you will have other problems that will arise when reaching that point I have noticed.

Just a few things i have noticed, but i would say 90% of problems people have with AR's in the LEO/MIL world has to due with Armour's not keeping up with maintenance.

we fix them, the user has to clean and oil them. we used to get filthy weapons in the shop till we turned them away. now, we have no issues

If there is one thing i can say about my military career, although not long...is that I kept my weapons far cleaner and in better conditions than most i ever met.

the next one will have no deflector. Sends brass straight into your eye. (for the people that don't wear glasses because they've never lost an eye). Going to be a big seller.
 
Frankly color me in the no need for a Forward assist group.

The ONLY time I have seen a use for it (outside of rather outdated CF drills) is if the bolt does not go fully into battery doing a press check. Then even then, Mr Thumb can be used on the cuttout on the carrier.

Nothing is gained by trying to push a round into the chamber.

I'm not running out to cut them off my guns, but we made some guns for a program that specifically did not have them, and given the option to build my own gun, I would leave it off - as I dont use it.

It's not to push a round into the chamber but push the BCG forward when the round is already properly seated in the chamber but has stopped because the BCG is not fully forward and has grinned to a halt, i have seen this with sand and carbon fouling, sometimes just with sand. Once my self and another time with a cpl on a different ex.

But yeah besides that and doing a press check or silence is crucial cleaning when danger is close, it is not needed.

even if you were to go for another vacation in Kandahar? I know both KAC and Colt Canada have both produced some models without it. Including KAC's SR 25, PDW, and M110.

That said I did see a unique stoppage in Tarnak when the forward assist assembly disassembled itself jamming the fowrard assist pin in between the bolt and receiver. That one was interesting, however when the guy got it all apart and took all the pieces out, the rifle functioned just fine until it was repaired later that day.

I still like mine for the winter/dusty spots.... Even if I only ever use it for press checking and clearing it on the way back into whichever resort I may be staying at.
