As stated before, both.
However, as it is, I once needed the money to buy some equipment for another equally exciting hobby of mine, and the AR was the bank for me to get the stuff. I really had no qualms about parting with the AR knowing that I still had my M305. My reasoning was that the M305 is a more useful firearm for me. The AR has its tricks and bells, is wonderfully accurate, sweet to shoot and has that cool factor, yet I could only take it to the range when I wanted to shoot it. The 14, on the other hand, is also accurate, more rugged (in my opinion), and can serve not only as a range rifle, but also as one of the best hunting rifles I have ever owned. You can take it anywhere: camping, hunting, long trips, range, yada yada. The AR, when not on the range, is a safe queen or a dry-firing toy.
On the other hand, if all you want to do is go to the range, I'd say that the AR is to be preferred: cool, accurate, ergonomic, accessorisable ad infinitum ad nauseam.
It really comes down to what you want to do with your rifle.
I read threads like this all the time here and on other forums, and it always comes down to a guy's personal circumstances when he makes his choice.
