Maybe is just me but it seems odd that most AR15 type uppers that I see for sale on the EE do not come with bolt carriers or bolts. Am I the only one that keeps a barrel and bolt together once they have been used? I've always thought that the barrel extension and bolt head would wear together and fit better as a matched set than mixing and matching them after they have been used.

ive built 100,s if not 1000+ ar15 uppers In the last 20yr, only have 5 head space issue, an olimpic arms 2 norincos and 2 NEA and one of my own S&J hardware products.
unless you have a match grad sub moa hand built shooter it,s pointless .

Isn't that the whole idea of Mil-Spec. As long as Everything is in spec. Everything works together.
Hence buying parts from reputable manufactures.

But the thing about no BGCs with uppers.
People are to Cheap to own more than one BGC. LOL....sad but true.

They got 2 or 3 uppers but only one BGC.

I have more BGCs than I have uppers. Thats the way it should be!

And extra firing pins, bolts....etc.

I don't think anyone has an issue with mixing or matching bolts and carriers with uppers. The issue is why someone would sell an upper without the BCG and a charge handle. Its like selling a car without tires. If you're moving the upper, then move it complete.

It goes both ways...I've had guys ask me to remove the BCG and handle on some of the uppers I've sold to make the price cheaper...there's no pleasing everyone.

Vendors here in my opinion get uppers with bolts included and break them up for sale to maximize profit. If you buy the same product state side it usually has a bolt included.

The Knights, DD and other uppers we get in that came with BCG's, get sold with BCG's.

BCM has a variety of uppers that they offer. The ones we ordered, didn't come with BCG's, so we don't include BCG's.

I think it's more a case of if they are selling an upper they are probably buying a different upper, so no point in selling a BCG if you have to buy another to replace it.

Many Canadians want things as cheap a they can, soon as johnny tactical tells them they can use the same bolt carrier in the new upper they want with 99% chance of it not being an issue.
A very large amount of people want to buy that new upper without a BCG.
I,ve been doing this too long to be wrong about this, myself I like complete guns, but many as I say want that 2nd upper option a cheap as possible.

^^^^^^^^^^^^This!...
I subscribe to the tenet that "Two is one, one is none".....Impossible to have enough extra anything!

yessir.
the bcg holds all the goodies that are most likely to break anyway, so having a complete spare is a good idea.

I'm not so sure. Spare bolts, yes, but complete carriers? The carrier isn't the weak point, the bolt is, more specifically the extractor and surrounding lugs. A properly staked gas key will last near forever. A spare carrier is a fair chunk of cash tied up in a part that has a very low failure rate.

Yeah, bringing the entire bcg is overkill, but I already own it and it's a quick/complete package that keeps the firing pin and firing pin....pin from bending.
I throw it in my range bag for matches and training days.

You got me thinking now, maybe I'll break it down and just bring the bolt/firing pin/firing pin-pin.
Range bag keeps getting heavier and heavier...

Just remember. 10 months ago there were NO spare anythings around. Having a few BGCs ...and yes bolts..pins etc. Just makes sense.
Buy little bits now. It may happen again before you know it.

I forget the correct term but mechanical parts like the bolt head and the barrel extension will bed in together once they have warn down a small amount so that their mating surfaces match. Every time they are swapped out you begin the beding in aka wearing in process again. Perhaps the diffence is insignificant but over thousands of rounds a matched bolt and extension should wear less and give better accuracy. At least that is the notion makes me reluctant to swap bolts around different uppers willy nilly.
