Howdy. I've been thinking a lot recently on how I'd put together an PDW AR15. I keep on landing on the stock choice. There's nothing out there that is as minimalist, except of course NEA's new contraption (that I don't want to invest in, no offense).
So I've been thinking of running an AR with no stock, with just the buffer tube hanging off the end. Anybody try this?

Well, they're not ARs but you could do it with a Swiss Arms or an XCR pistol. Or probably an ACR.

Hmm, some sort of skeletonized topfolding AR stock could be cool.

An AR-15 pistol isn't a PDW though, it's a pistol.

That's good to hear about the inventor of that thing. It's one of the dumber things I've seen on an AR. Make dumb stuff, ya get called on it.

Is the extra 2-3" of length worth giving up decent stock purchase and cheek weld?
I personally think the accuracy would suffer greatly, and with a collapsed stock like an MOE or CTR, or even an old CAR would offer more than it took away. You would also have to consider sling attachment points when dealing with a PDW. Not saying a sling can only go onto a stock, but you'll need another option.

If you really need the extra length and weight down, take it off the barrel. Your range will decrease, but with a proper stock, the accuracy within that range will be greater than without.

You can't top fold an AR stock, it at a minimum has to house the buffer assembly.

Except that is exactly what it is.

A pdw with no stock is a pistol. That's how the Americans get around the wait period/tax stamp for their sbrs they just call it a pistol until their stamp comes.

Have you considered the old 2nd generation collapsible stock?: http://bpullignwolnet.dotster.com/retroblackrifle/ModGde/CrbGde/629.html

Not sure why you're copping an attitude your question has been answered and is exactly what you asked for.

A pdw without a stock is a pistol. Doesn't matter if you like the name or not that's what your setup would be.

Your question asking if anybody has run just the buffer tube? Is yes, any and everyone who's got an ar pistol.

Edit didn't notice guy above was not the op.

I'm not sure if you are referring to me, as I didn't ask any question. I'm not intending an attitude towards you, or anyone.

My post above completely agrees with yours, that without a stock, an AR, is effectively a pistol. I think, if you are in fact referring to me, you may have misread something that was not related to your post, or for you , or I may have not been clear enough.

Apologies if I upset you.
