AR180 or AR15

You're $300,000 sports car is sheet metal. The jumbo jet you fly in at 30,000 feet is made of sheet metal and plastic.

That would be wrong. The BODY is sheet metal on both. These would be low stress areas of the structure. The jet and the car would have a frame that is made from a thicker guage metal. These things called "frames" are actually what is taking the stress of the loads.:p

Acually most of the structure of an aircraft is held together by the skin which can have great stress loads upon it.

AR180B is trash until the fix the lower with a metal one.

2 points to remember

1) Just like everything else in life. You Get What You Pay For.

2) Just like a good looking woman who cooks and cleans. A Cheap, Accurate and Well Built *Un-Res. Black Rifle* doesn't exsist.

Just thought I'd quote this in case any of you other morons missed it.

I swear, this has been the official "idiots annoy Armedsask" weekend.

When you get the AR180B is comes with a yellow warning tag that says something to the effect of "Do not allow the upper to swing forward freely as it may damage/break the hinge - if this occurs Armalite will replace the lower." Everything else on the lower seems quite solid :)

I like mine and I had no issues. I use it quite a bit, lately a friend of mine asked me to borrow it for ground hog hunting. He used it at the range and he loves it. I'm scared that I'll have a hard time prying it off his hands ;) .

The lower is made of polymer and it isn't impossible to use it properly and avoid damaging the gun. Just use common sense!

The question was AR15 or 180B???? Well, they are different and like others have said depends if you want the freedom of taking it with you to the bush or just to the range.

You guys realise the AKM is sheet metal, right? In fact, a hell of a lot of firearms out there are sheet metal.

You kids need to learn a thing or two about metal strength and stresses. The sheet metal of the AR180B upper is, in fact, a non stress-bearing part of the firearm. All it's really there for is to hold the upper closed and put sights on.

Call me a drunk if I am wrong but the PE-90 I just sold looked liked stamped metal to me,

I am not dicing the AR180B, but the AR180 is built to be a cheaper rifle to compete in the lower price point market in in the US.

THe gas block is fixed to the barrel by two screws-this means unless it is loctited it is not a sturdy platform. In the old days, some of the barrel tunions were not wielded true to the receivera. THe handguard opens on the top - this means hot gas gonna screw up your sight picture, especially in winter. It is fairly accurate but it is what it is - a rectanglur stamped sheet metal box. It is not the fancy trapezodial geometry of the Swiss Arms. It is a fun rifle, just not as serious as the AR15 as a tool.

Greentips summed it up well... if the AR15 was non-restricted, it'd be a no brainer... buuuuut!

You just need to decide what is most important to you :)

Ar180B is going to be discontinued at this rate. It was designed for a gun ban that is now dead and has to compete with guns made of real metal with real features. So the only reason to have a 180B is for the nostalgia of the 180, and Im sorry with that plastic lower it doesnt work for me. I used to want it with a flash hider, bayonet lug, and chrome lined bore, now I would just settle for it with a sheet metal lower.

Until that day, the 180B will be an inferior version of an outdated rifle.

Anyone know??? I didn't see an answer, maybe I missed it but if someone did I would think long and hard to have an AR type hunting rig
No, they don't.

The threads are the same as an AR15 barrel but the gasports most likely won't line up. I'm going to order an AR15 barrel without a gasport and try to mount that, drilling the port myself.
