Hi everyone, I enjoy hunting, and get tired of my bolt action rifle, and you know, trying to go hunting this summer with a cooler looking rifle, non restricted definitely! Accuracy is not a problem, my brother with 338 Lapua always covers my ass..

and I just learnt that for "non-restricted looking cool firearm", besides Tavor 21, Robinson XCR, Swiss PE90 and CZ858, we still have an option--------the AR180B. How excited!

ok, now comes a question,
is the AR180B still classified as NON-RESTRICTED?
if so, normally how much would I pay to get one?

and also, me, myself, being a "crazy gun lover" in Canada, personally feeling unsecured about the canadian gun laws, mostly I feel unsecured of a Non-Restricted gun suddenly becomes Restricted, by their "Bad ass Assault Rifle looking".
will it happen? like the way they've done to the AK47...... like someday in the future you go shopping and find out Tar21 is restricted???

what factors would the RCMP consider to kick a NR gun to the Restricted field?

woooow, that's a lot of questions, every comment will be appreciated!

Yes Ar-180B is Non restricted still.

in recent times very few popular firearms have been reclassifed to restricted or prohibited. there have been a few that were origionally classed as restricted then changed to prohibited very shortly after because someone made a mistake. but as far as i know no common firearms have been re-classified. lots of talk and fear mongering of "mass re-classifcations" over the last 10 years but so far it hasent happened yet.

as far as cost goes i belive there in the 900-1400 dollar range, they dont make them new as far as i know so you would be looking at used.

also what would you plan on hunting with it? they only come in .223 so anyhting bigger than varmints is out of the question.

if your looking for something deer capable and "cool looking" maybe consider a synthetic ruger mini-14 in 6.8 remington?

why they don't make new AR180Bs? did Armalite.inc just cancel the production line?? or they just don't export to Canada anymore?

yea I just go for hunting fox and some other varmints, so .223 is enough for them. (Actually sometimes I use .223 for deer hunting, with proper ammo it works)

and I've thought about the mini14 as well, after watching "the A-team" lol...found out its also a cool looking gun in my taste(with factory folding stock). But since they don't export folding stock to Canada anymore so I just stopped thinking of it...

the reasons I'm interested in AR180B are because it is an AR15 cousin, so parts, mags, ammo are interchangeable, and I shot one before, found out it is very accurate(with iron sight 100yards group is sitting on bulleye not getting out of 9th ring), and yea AR180B still non-restricted, if I'm lucky enough I will find one.
base on what you wrote now I found out the gun laws are not really that random as I imagined...
Very informative comment! thank you so much!!

Look at the KelTec SU-16 with pistol grip. There's a few guys here that have posted pics of their tricked up ones. It fires .223, takes the LAR 10 round mags and is cheaper and easier to obtain.

The AR15 is too popular (and generally with no usage or mag restrictions) in the States to have a similarly-priced and generally lower-quality rifle succeed in the marketplace.

That was the case a few years ago...on the EE here now you're seeing maybe $1400-$1800.

Troll troll...... particularily the summertime hunting while having his ass covered by a .338 laupa. I never seen much groundhog hunting done by way of lapua mag. I smell a toronto "crazy gun lover" member of the coalition for gun control.

The RCMP cannot declare a unique design with a barrel over 18.5" to be restricted, they simply do not have that power. They can declare it to be prohibited without grandfathering or they can leave it alone, nothing in between.

thanks for the comment, SU16 is also a nice gun, but really can't tell if I like it cuz I've never fired one. wish some day in the range someone will let me try one and see.:)
