specter is a little different it was designed with tighter tolerances than the standard c79 but just as you said, its not a optic you go and pay retail price for. given its made in canada and not china, id say it would be an acceptable optic in the $4-600 (if that) but not $1200
That's not at all what I said. What I was saying is that I would have a hard time paying $2000 for a 1-4 optic, I'm not saying it isn't worth what they retail for, only that I'm kinda cheap and when it comes to short range optics I usually spend less, I spend more on my long range optics like my NF 5.5-22×56 that's on my 338 Lapua where that level of clarity is better used.
So you're saying the Elcan Specter DR is in the same ballpark as a Bushnell?
If so you may need to stop smoking whatever it is you're smoking. Perhaps you just need to pull your head out of the sand and price out other quality optics options. The Elcan I own is similar in optical clarity and definition to my Nightforce scopes that retail for over $2000 and noticeably better than my Vortex Viper PST that retails for over $600. I'm not sure what you are comparing them to that is around $400-$600 and of equal or better quality but I've never found anything as good for under $1000.
Any time I let someone try my AR with the DR on it they are blown away by the clarity and don't like what they see any more when looking through their Bushnell or whatever they have.
$400-$600 doesn't buy you much these days if you want a quality piece of glass.
