I actually do have a mosin in an archangel stock.
It's there because I had a mosin in a wood stock that just shot like total ass, and I couldn't figure out why so I stripped off the wood and found that the barrel had a quarter sized chunk rusted out of it. I had to cut and re-crown the barrel which unfortunately meant it wouldn't fit in the original stock, and it lost the front sight. I actually kept the barrel in my range bag for a while for the dudes that like to point out how I bubba'd a gun (which is good because I actually don't totally disagree with them)
Anyway, to the OP, I tried a few scope mount ideas, finally went with a scout style mount, in the rear sight mount. I had to use industrial strength epoxy under it to keep it from creeping.
I have another original mosin. Shoots okay (nothing close to my Swedish mauser) but the recoil and overall length of the rifle means I'm more likely to grab the bubba'd one.
