Archangel Mosin Scope mount options

The bent bolt was not that hard to make. I just drilled and tapped the hole in the bolt after cutting the old handle off. Then I screwed in the bolt until it stopped. Then I marked it in the direction I wanted to bend it, took it out, put it in a vice, heated it up and bent it. Screwed it back in, made adjustments until I liked where it sat. Then I cut the threaded end so it no longer protruded into the striker way. Then cut the head off the bolt, and slid the empty case on (full of epoxy. But if I were going to do it again I would solder it). Then I nickel plated it with a little rig I had built awhile ago (see below) Finally, I loctited it into the bolt body. It works great.

Mounting the scope required some care and attention to get everything lined up correctly. But it seems to shoot straight. We'll see how well she holds zero over time. But if you want to go with a more conventional setup, the Rock Solid industries mount looked to me to be the best one going.

I am not having a coronary, but I don't like seeing stuff trashed for no good reason. I have had over 200 of these dammed things and I know what gets rnds on target and the fallen angel stock with posp combo ain't it. These are the rifles that will get parted out in ten years when guy are putting rifles together cause they can find a mosin for less than a grand. They are already showing up on the ee with all the acoutriments and still shooting like crap. But hey, what do I know? Just another Hector the collector who happens to enjoy hitting the targets while you guys try to figure out what came loose or fell off your rifles.

There is a lack of marksmanship skills these days and it's become ridiculous. This need to "scope" everything is like riding on the short bus.
You can get a MN and 480 rounds of ammo for about $300. If you actually took all that ammo, and practiced shooting (even at 100m) with a proper sling standing/sitting/kneeling/prone you would be able to group that rifle off a bench as well as you could ever group it with a scope.

Given how high the scope sits on most of them, a good shooter may do better with the irons. I guess it's just not in vogue to go the cheapest and most effective way these days. An investment in reloading gear would be far wiser than a scope.

Ok. Got it. You have definite opinions on what people should and should not do with their own property. And when they ask a question, you feel the need to weigh in with how misguided they are. The lecturing is getting old. If the guy wants to put a scope on his rifle, what is it to you? Here's a tip: If it bothers you to see a modified surplus rifle .... don't look.

What's it to me? It reduces the pool of available intact rifles. That's all. Just like the enfields, mausers, and garands many can no longer ever hope to afford. If you don't like the lecturing maybe the milsurp forum is not for you. Perhaps you should petition for a mutilated milsurp forum where everybody can discuss how to best to chop, cut and drill everything in sight till there is no longer anything to modify. Remember that these are the last generation of surps we can own and there is a finite supply. But again, what do I know?

OK. Got it. It is your holy mission to go into a thread called "Archangel Mosin Scope Mount options" for the express purpose of venting your spleen. And your suggestion is that I should just leave the forum if I "don't like the lecture". I did not know that you were running the forum. I will leave you to it then.

I merely provide viable options to those that may not be aware they exist. By your logic you would be perfectly happy with me buying up the remaining supplies of milsurps and dumping them in the ocean guaranteeing that no one will ever get to see them as they were. After all its my property. Such a short sighted view. As for leaving the forum, as the saying goes "If you can't take the heat....". Anyways, this will be my last post on this subject. Drill away lads.

lol .... first you say I should leave. Then you suggest that if I leave it is because I can't take the heat. No, I am not feeling any heat here. I just did not want to get in your way as you administered your kingdom.

Oh, and by the way .... I am pretty sure the OP probably already knew that doing nothing to his rifle was a viable option.

Try the red rifles section, usually where all the bubba threads are.... Where plastic is the new wood and groups are shot at 25m with optics....

I have a second mosin. One has a round receiver and the other a hex receiver. I'm going tacticool the hex one just to piss Desporterizer. Can't handle people doing what they want to their property? Tough luck. Get over it!

Most entertaining thread! Yet very little to do with the OP's question. Kind of counter productive to the hobby as a whole to prevent or derail discussions on public forums. I'm of the mind that whatever attracts people to spend their money and enjoy this hobby is good for it.

Sorry I have nothing to provide to the discussion that's actually on topic with the exception that we should try to keep on topic. :)
