Archangel Mosin Stock

Detachable mag & free float barrel are nice upgrades, you can also use the barrel tensioner to tune your barrel harmonics & really improve your existing accuracy!

I want to get this stock, replace the factory barrel with a 20" bull barrel, target crown and muzzle brake it with bipod, tac light, laser and a rangefinders all mounted on a bunch of bolt-on picatinny rails.

Then I'll rename it a Notta Nagant ;)

Seriously folks, I love it, but stock, rifle, scope and mount would cost at least $600.
The "sniper Mosins" were considered "very accurate" because they could shoot at least 2 moa. Not spectacular by today's standards.
...but ya I still want one, when I have money to burn and I'm up for a challenge.
Might just be worth the ridiculing I'll get from my gunsmith...

Regarding: "...a 20" bull barrel...", above; anybody see/handle one of them enough yet to see what the barrel-channel will take, without significant hogging-out?

My days of considering cutting up a decent milsurp for a project, no matter how plentiful, are behind me. I must admit, though, that when I first saw this stock I thought I might have felt the beginning of some stirring of interest in a winter-project coming upon me (or possibly just indigestion from spicy deer-burritos, which sometimes provide similar symptoms): take a solid action with a crapped-out barrel with or without stock, swap it out for a heavy Bbl w/.308" bore, mount one of those surprising Timney M-N triggers, get a 7.62x54mm chamber-reamer with a .308" pilot, figure out some decent (short eye-relief type) solid optics mount, and see what it'll do.

The stock is the single most expensive new part I'd need to buy, and having to permanently modify it for a heavy barrel makes the project a little less attractive.

Okay, somebody talk some sense here before I get serious?

I just ordered the stock, should have it by next week. I'll get back to you with a measurement of the barrel channel...

My plan is to turn it into a scout rifle. I want to cut at least six inches off the barrel and muzzle brake it. I'm going to fit the scout scope mount on it and throw on a holographic red dot sight (unlimited eye relief).
Voila! 30-06 powered scout rifle with less kick than my Ruger .308 scout rifle.
Seems like a fun/unique project. My Ruger Gunsight Scout rifle shoots 2moa with factory ammo, but it's just a bush gun.
If a converted Mosin shoots that well then I'm happy.
AIM sells 2-7x42mm scout scope (which I have on my Ruger) but I don't want to buy scope and rings when I still have a holo sight lying around un-used...

Actualy the minimum accuracy required from the 91/30 PU rifle was to shoot 10 shots into 3.5 cm (1.38") at 100m, 7.5 cm (2.96") at 200m, 18 cm (7.09") at 400m, and 35 cm (13.79") at 600m. Wich is pretty damn good considering they didnt have sniper/match ammo either they were issued ammo from batches that were found more accurate durring testing.

So 2moa@600m? Thanks for the specs! I would be laughing and crying at the same time if my Tacticool Mosin shoots better than my $900 Ruger Scout rifle!

These specs look pretty close to what's considered a worn out M24. Good for its day but, once again, not spectacular by today's standards. I'd be happy if I got a 2moa rifle out of the project. 4in groups at 200 yards is fine for hunting deer! If I'm hunting 300+ plus yards then I'll use my 3/4 moa plain old Savage 116.

There she is! Cut down by 6 inches, muzzle brake by Henry Rempel and a Timney trigger installed by me:)

Can't wait to try it out!

Remember that is the maximum group size and we are talking about a 3.5 power scope with an aiming reticle similar to this ^ and an ok trigger.

So I took out the Mosin project sunday, and it sure is nice to shoot with that muzzle brake! The kick doesn't feel much more than my .223! There seemed to be a fair amount of vertical stringing, so I'm going to install the barrel dampener and see if I can tighten up those groupings. As is it will be a #####in little scout rifle for watching the bait pile close quarters for black bear this spring. Not super accurate at the moment but I never expected it to be.

Why not add it to the Mosin, I have a cheap good shooting rifle with respectable power, surprising accuracy, and after some filing a very nice trigger pull, what's wrong with making it 1000 times more comfortable. A lot cheaper than buying another modern gun and far more comfortable than any factory rifle I've ever used. Not to mention. This isn't Simo Hayha's personal rifle, its a '41 9130. There are tens of millions of them out there. And either way it does no permanent damage to the rifle. It's just 2 screws.

First shots through the Archangel and new scope last weekend. 1.25-1.75" groups at 100, hopefully this weekend I can load some more rounds and try it further out. And with the home made muzzle brake it feels like shooting a .22. Almost no recoil whatsoever. But I need to double up on hearing protection.
