A retailer in Canada is suggesting that they are.
I have some concerns about the reality of this claim or, more precisely, the reliablity of the information upon which the claim was made. The purpose of this online board is the open discussion of issues relating to firearms in Canada, so here are my thoughts:
If there were any "NIB" old stock P7 pistols anywhere in the world, the distributor would be able to import them into the United States and sell them for DOUBLE what is being proposed here, in U.S. dollars - perhaps more depending on model, date code, markings, etc. The things are as good or better than hard currency or gold.
If it is true what the retailer has been told - and I have no reason to doubt them in any way - then that is an amazing historical find which is going to be sold off dirt cheap... to Canada. Unfortunately there are not a lot of amazing historical finds in the world of firearms anymore, and they generally don't end up in Canada.
The ARMTAC M13's that came in were used police surplus and bought for about 400 Euros each and sold for CAN$999 with one mag. 18 pistols sold out in one day of pre-order. If he had 300 of them to sell, it would have been no problem, it would just take a couple of weeks.
Those pistols now re-sell for $1,600+. The M13 mags alone sell in the range of $200-250 each.
When the police surplus PSP's became available, all we ever got were the 'B' and 'C' grade guns... almost all of which were marked "NDS" (came from the same state police agency). All the really nice, unique, valuable ones went to the U.S. - and in both countries they sold out rapidly. Our 'B' and 'C' grade pistols (sold by ArmsEAST and others) sold for about $1,100 each... used police guns... and that was about 6 years ago.
The demand for P7 pistols has never slowed down. It has increased since the end of production in 2008... when the last pistols from the HK distributor were selling for $2,250-$2,500, most of which were snapped up by insiders before ever making it onto a store shelf. So now... 6 years later the price of NIB pistols has gone down? Not a chance.
I have the full collection (PSP, M8, M13, M10) and have bought and sold many others over the years, so I am not concerened for myself. But if NIB old-stock M8s and M13s show up and sell for $1,500 Canadian... that will be a great thing, and I'll believe it when I see it. The educated investor would buy ALL of them at that price, export them to the U.S. and double their money or, hell, keep them here in Canada and double their money.
I'm curious what Electrobug thinks. The guy knows more about P7s than anyone - including where to find them and import them from Europe and what they will sell for.
