Are older 870's worth more?

Interesting, what possessed you own have over 20 870's? To me that's like saying I have a Ferrari, Lambo and a Range Rover, but I keep a shop full of Datsun's in the back 40, I can't wrap my head around it.

Same thing that possess me to currently have 34 28ga or over 100 shotguns . I love pumps and vintage semi's
I like to collect in sets one of each gauge offered. Like model 37's a 12,16,20 and 28 a set same with cooey 84's, 1100 etc etc
I like collecting what I call blue collar vintage firearms ones the average Joe can afford to buy
Not hard to do when you collect and pick up a few here and there over 45 plus years. When my dad died he left me 304 in the late 70's to deal with . He had a gun shop in the 60's and 70's. I have a couple late 70's wingmasters NIB out of the shop still. Two I think a 12 and a 20 and no they are not for sale
Cheers

I wish I had a shop full of Datsun 510's, have you looked at the price a clean rust free 2dr 510 goes for? It's crazy, even incomplete parts cars bring a couple grand nowadays.

The Datsun 510 is one of the greatest economy cars ever built. They actually have a pretty strong following among hobbyists and are often known as "the poor man's BMW".

Believe it or not you would not believe the people looking for old chevrolet vega parts today of all things
I have a few chevrolets out of the 60's and get asked all the time for weird stuff
There is a collector for everything
Cheers

We did for sure too bad some don't know it. Bought all my guns face to face private sales or from about 20 mom and pop shops around my home. Our reviews was seeing them, using others many times first with reviews from people you knew and trusted
Not like the pure BS posted on the internet in many cases
No worries of sending an emt and getting burned. You handed cash to the seller and held exactly what you were getting, no worries with canada post shipping it etc etc
There was life before the internet
Cheers

Yup, some people sure don't belong on the interwebs

Yup and some of us have been pounding computer key boards for the federal government long before most even knew a computer existed or there was internet in 1991
You seem to like poking at old guys but who designed 90% of what you use today. Hint OLD GUYS
Cheers

Prefer shine, smooth , fully machined, fit and finish. So yes I payed twice the current price to get a like new 870 at a auction. I have the money and the desire, and I do not give a crap about what other think.

An 870 wingmaster in field grade in 12 gauge with a full choke is worth just this side of nothing.
Now, a sub gauge with better checkered, that is worth more.

express 870s = matte blue finish (NOT parked like the Police models), MIM parts and some seem to have rough chambers which can make extraction a bit sticky...the later ones also have the the plastic "tensioner" on the front of the mag tube instead of the detent and ball....

older wingmasters are often 2 3/4 only and full choke...some of these lighter profile barrels were recalled when steel shot came on the scene...

LOL I am sorry but I had to respond one more time
Guess who owned both K and P guns and guess what many of those owners do to those without them. They look down their nose all the time
Like I SAID MADE THE FULL CIRCLE
Don't believe that walk to a stand at a new club with an old 870 pump today or even 25 years ago even better a 870 in 28ga my favorite and watch the giggles and looks
They are not laughing after 25 birds
Cheers
Here you go. Look who told the OP what this trigger was. The old 870 owner. How did he know that EASY since he owned these higher end guns too and not just one, rem 32, k-32 then finished with a k80, plus mx8's
Like I said earlier the stick doesn't make the shooter

I see a guy now with a P or K I say so what, I see an old guy step up with a model 12 or 870 I say I think someone is going to get a lesson in shooting today

I've seen one 870 at a registered shoot since 1989 and a couple 1100's. Nobody giggled or looked down their nose. In fact nobody takes notice even when one of the fellows we shoot with disrupts the squad about once each event to repair or replace his 1100 to keep going....also as you eluded to earlier in the thread I don't recall ever having my ass kicked by an 870 since as I said the only one I've seen in use was last year, the first I've seen on the registered shoots trap line since 1989. I see a few Express's and SPS's before bird season opens when some of the local bird hunters come out to shoot a bit of practice before bird season opens and even then I see a broad mix of benelli's, mossbergs, remingtons etc. It is the very, very rare occasion you see a pump or auto at a registered shoot nowadays. I can't tell you the last time I saw a model 12 at a registered shoot? Probably it was my own before I sold them all and stuck with break action guns.

You think there was 20 skeet shooters at the 2017 Alberta provincial this year either? Not sure why I asked you a question your done with me.

Oh well, look forward to the next 870 thread maybe once in the 60s sum son ##### parked in your spot at the club and had a _______. You can insert whatever your jealous of that day there.

You are right Jimmy 808 as much as some are loathe to hear it but registered skeet is on life support. A friend I shoot trap with who is a fantastic skeet shooter and owns his own club with two combination trap and skeet fields told me last weekend he can no longer get excited about annually hosting the SK Provincial Skeet Championships at his club as for a over a decade now the shoot has attracted 8 shooters per year! He says he'd like to drop it from his club roster and just go to another trap shoot elsewhere but feels obligated to provide the grounds for the shoot for the few shooters left shooting the game in SK.

I have only one 870. It was my Dad's and he bought the Wingmaster in the early 1950's at Woodwards. We gave that gun a trememdous amount of use until I had saved enough money for my first M12. Dad kept on shooting it until he gave up hunting. That Wingmaster sits in my safe in good working order just waiting for someone to take it out hunting. I believe those early Wingmasters were a very well built shotgun.

It’s kind of like the used car industry. “Don’t make em like they used to” it’s somewhat true but in a lot of cases BS.

Older 870 wingmaster with a proper fit and polished action plain barrel no vent rib just feels right in every way. P.s. dont bash 3macs1 he is my favorite poster on this forum and full of good information

Crazy collectors. Reminds me of the fellow on here last month trying to get valuations. Judging guns ONLY by condition is crazy IMHO. Condition is important but so is original quality. A Wingmaster, no matter the condition, is still just a Wingmaster. Now, I own one and used it almost exclusively for over 20 years so it’s not like I don’t like them. But I recognize them for what they are……a mass produced pump gun. No more and no less.
