Are Springfield m1a all that?

Thing is...LRB IS the best of everything....ive seen Springfields go for over 3k. I personally would still rather build a GI rifle off the norc receiver than buy a Springfield. But to each their own. If i could afford an LRB I would own one. But I also want an NEA102....x95....etc..
 
LRB's and Bula's are far and above anything SAI offers. That being said, SAI deserves some respect. Their rifles are sufficient for most anyone and had it not been for them, the M14 would be dead, at least in the US. They kept the M14 alive for decades, long enough to keep the customer base large enough for companies like LRB and Bula to come online.

I find it really hard to justify spending that much money for a SAI when they, apparently, still have some problems and tune up needed and their parts are made outside of the US. I heard some parts are made in brazil and tawain.

If you're at that level of financial commitment to the platform you would be wise to consider an LRB Arms. Their rifles are far more than hammer forged parts.

There has seldom been a better time to be an M14 fan in Canada than in 2017. Rare U.S.G.I. parts galore...
 
A serious dumb question , on a norc is there any advantage to usgi part given that if the norc parts ar all squared away?

Yeah I would go the same route myself. Norc Receiver and then USGI everything with a NOS barrel and tune it as I assemble.
I only have a Norc 2007 M305 that I have tuned completely and even bedded the action. It shoots very well and I don't think I've ever had a stoppage after many hundreds of rounds.
I've not see anything from SA that is any better than what I already am shooting for accuracy and reliability that would justify the stupid prices.

Wasn't Wolverine selling M14 parts kits, everything except the receiver, for $950 and $1150? Think they've all been snapped up....

I agree with you Tony, but.....

Unlike you fellas down south, we have absolutly no after sale support from SAI. When a fella spends $2500+ on a rifle only to have it pile up with-in a couple hundred rounds, it really leaves a bad taste in a fellas mouth.

If a guy wants an M-14, and knows he can have an American made cast receiver and no warranty for $2500 vs a Chinese made forged receiver for $600 and no warranty, it's a real no-brainer for us Canucks!

There is no springfield warranty on m1a's in Canada???
This greatly affects my future purchase options.

So if my LRB Arms "pile up with-in a couple hundred rounds", then all shipping export/import costs for warranty work are covered by LRB or Wolverine (the dealer)? I have my doubts about that. Unfortunately, I have had to send a few things for warranty work in the US, none were Springfield Armory products, and only one time were the costs of shipping etc. covered by the Canadian dealer.
 
I have owned 3 SAI rifles. All were fine. I did break one extractor. Replacing the bolt parts with GI parts is recommended by some knowledgeable people. Before the AR15 started to dominate US NM competition the SAI rifles certainly held their own.
 
Short answer: Springfield Rifles, when compared to Norinco, exhibit a much higher fit and finish and are - generally, smoother and marginally more accurate. Also, while the probability of getting a lemon exists with any manufacturer, I believe that that probability is lower with Springfield than Norinco. It's up to you if these factors are worth the price difference between the two.

Personally, I have a Norinco and an LRB and beyond the fit & finish and the slightly better accuracy (I'm talking marginal points here), the Norinco is, to ME, 95% of the rifle that LRB is while being $2300 cheaper. FWIW, I did have a Springfield NM and sold it for a used LRB as i felt that the fit and finish was a touch better (more precise machining and finishing, consistent gaps, tighter fitment of parts, smoother operation).
