I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic boys![]()
you still think after posts 14,16 and 17 he was being sarcastic !? The op seems to have a penchant for making brash uneducated statements, as he did the same over in the precision rifle forum and got slayed.
But giving him the benefit of the doubt and sarcasm was the intent, it shouldn't be used as a defense for lack of knowledge or stupidity. It seems that some people never learn to stop skating uphill.

For the cost of .17 hmr ammo I can just about load match grade .223 Rem and shoot the pants off any .17 hmr at 100 yards or 200yards or 500 yards.....with a factory savage M12.
So it all comes down to what you like, why would I buy a .22lr when a .17 is better.... or why would I buy a .17 when a .223 is better.ect.......or a 6br....
not a fan of 223 because its not rimfire, for these applications rimfire is just simpler.. at 24 cents a round, you're kinda glad the 17HMR rifles are all pretty much bolt action lol
but yeah, my 7.62x54R archangel mosin outshoots just about anything 308 or 30-06... intuitively good... after a lot of work to it.
theres always something better..
but sticking to rimfire....
i like shooting beer cans with 22LR, with a 110round drum mag.
I like to shoot the caps off chapstick farther away than most people can see even with an average scope...
with 17HMR
personal choice i suppose but the point remains... people who are good at 22LR are GOOD... and you need top level gear to make it really good.
for average people with little experience and no training... to be able to unbox a rifle, throw a cheap scope on, and perform just about at match level.... almost anyone off the street who tries it....
I find that amazing.
Like i said.. my $600 setup in 17HMR outperforms my $1800 setup in 22LR in the same hands... its just easier... nicer... if what youre trying to do is share holes between bullets
Not that its impossible to do it in 22...... just takes a lot more practice and skill and equipment.
Ugh. You guys are giving me a headache.
The OP is making a good argument (over and over again) but is doing so rudely, and while pissing on everyone he disagrees with.
The rest of you are right, but are being dense (intentionally or otherwise), and ignoring the core of the ops posts.
A BASIC .17 in the hands of an AMATEUR will OUTSHOOT a BASIC .22 in the hands of an AMATEUR at 100 yards or more.
That's just how it is.
You .22 folks are excellent marksmen, but at the CORE of this whole argument, you're wrong.
Op, you're right. Just don't be a d*ck about it.
<\rant>
yeah, when 60 years of practice and absolutely ideal shooting conditions with a lovingly maintained quality rifle will do?
damned impressive, regardless. With some familiarity he'd probably be putting 4 in one hole with a flier using a 17HMR.

Even though your .17 doesn't qualify, feel free to follow all of the rules regarding getting on that list and shoot the 5 groups. Since your .17 is so superior, feel free to stretch the distance out to 100, or farther since you claim it shoots dimes at any distance. The most important thing is.........DO NOT POST ANY MORE UNTIL YOU SHOOT A TARGET THAT PASSES!
Please note the number of shooters that can shoot their rifles and not their mouths.
Jeez Island guy that is some incredible shooting!!!!!
