Are these speed loaders worth it?

Have u looked at 5Star Firearms Aluminum speedloaders? They are more of the conventional type, not spring loaded but are made of aluminum and look great. They may ship to Canada but I havnt asked them. Depending on the model they will run from $19-$25 and also have great loading blocks/brackets avbl.

I have talked to them, and got a price quote for how many i wanted, the issue i have with them is they have pretty mixed reviews on the form and function of them that worries me, since i already bought the hks (which sucked badly), dont want a repeat.
 
Which kind of problems did you have with the HKS?

As long as the barrel of the gun is pointing down, they've worked OK for me.

I did step on one, and the bending of the plastic caused one round to "stick" and no drop free... Since they are relatively inexpensive, I just tossed it away...

The HKS, 95% of the time 1 to 3 rounds stick in the speed loader is my issue, if they didn't i would use them since they are cheap

With HKS reloaders, the barrel must be pointing straight down, as in vertical.

I only have experience with 6 holers, by the way. So I do not know how well the 7 rd HKS works.

The HKS design relies on gravity, whereas the Safariland Comp 2 and 3 actually launch the cartridges forward with spring action....more so with the 3. I have used all 3 types and found the Comp 3 to be most reliable at spitting out cartridges and filling the chambers.

However, with clean brass and chambers together with precise reloading technique achievable through diligent practice, the HKS design will work reliably albeit much slower than the Comp 3.
 
Dont get me wrong guys, when i say sticking i mean that I pull the speedloader up and shake it and 1-3 round stay put.
I've tried it with various types of casings and both 38 spl and 357, happens with both of the HKS's i own. maybe i got some bad ones, who knows.

It might be the 7 round design thats an issue.
 
The 5star loaders are very much like the HKS loaders in that they need to twist to unlock and rely on gravity from there. So yeah, I'm not surprised that the reviews are more towards the 50-50 side of things. After all, some actually LIKE the HKS loaders too.

Just what are you using your 7 shot revolver for that requires speed loaders? If you're using it in matches then many limit the number you can chamber to 6 rounds. The IPSC and IDPA classes for revolver are two such examples.
 
I have a 5 Star speedloader for my 500 S&W and it works fine, but my bullets are heavier than most.
