Are we in an SKS price bubble?

at what point do people start looking at what they are buying and for how much? it is a craptastic SKS, nothing more. for $700 you can get better guns. and to those that say they want to build from it, 858 comes stock, better than and SKS that has been attacked with TAPCO for the same price.

it is only "collectors" that are driving the price. shooters need to slow down and look for another plinker, it is just an SKS.

Yeah and there's only 150 million more to be sold. Totally explains the price increases.

Do you have any idea of how many SKS rifles have been distributed and used up???? Most third world nations around the world used them at one time or another and many still do in one form or another in their military. The attrition rate is high. Some nations refurbed them but most just used them up and then scrounged what they could from them for parts to keep remaining supplies working. Kind of like Canadian made Inglis P35s. Most of what's left in the inventories that is in VG-EXC condition is dwindling to its last dregs.

I bought my first all matching EXC condition P35, in its original blue cardboard box with an extra matching mag for $65. Try touching that same pistol in the same condition with the extra mag and issue box for less than $1500 now. Most of them were shipped offshore as give aways to other nations but a lot went onto the US surplus market. Not only that, but our military still issues them and they still have them in stores in new condition. Parts are few and far between and rumor has it that they are cannibalizing non working pistols for parts to keep the rest going or purchasing parts from offshore nations. Now, that's an anomaly.

Many here, including myself have seen this situation play out on several occasions. Always there were naysayers stating "there are so many, these will last forever." Not so all good things come to an end sooner or later. The few rifles/ammo we purchase in Canada are a drop in the bucket in comparison to the US and other nations that still allow semi auto firearms usage. The firearms are getting used up. We seem to be under a special umbrella here concerning these fine rifles.

I guarantee, if you snooze on these great deals, you WILL lose.

I can remember 303 British Surplus being $5/100 if you purchased a 600 round crate. Less than six months later, after that shipment was sold the price went to $40 then just kept on going up. Nothing new here at all. Just hold on and procrastinate a bit longer and you will have missed out completely.

In all fairness, the SKS D has been hovering around the $650 mark for a couple years now. I agree that the Yugo SKS have been coming in at $500 for the last few years though, when they popped up on the EE.

There is definitely a bubble...the value of these rifles has been sorely under appreciated in Canada and has been kept artificially low simply on account of supply. Now that the supply is disappearing, the market is correcting itself and the true market value (what people are still willing to pay) is showing itself. There's a trend of early birds on the EE right now trying to flog the nice, "all matching" or unrefurbished SKS from the high 3's up into the 400's already, despite the fact that there are many retailers who are still selling the same rifles for $220-250. Westrifle was the first to come out and say it, and Frontier confirmed it...prices are going up.

Yes, I easily moved 2 mint SKS-D rifles for $650 each. Both had seen 40 rounds non corrosive total. I still regret the day Allan at Milarm tried to sell me a crate of them for next to nothing and I turned them down (mind you I was only 16 at the time).

Damn, that would have been sweet to get in on. It's hard to say what's going to have value and become collectible 10-15 yrs down the road. Hedge your bets and buy everything you can as cheaply as you can I guess? Who knows. I won my first SKS from Frontier Firearms (I think) and since then it's been a slippery slope. They're great little shooters and I've really enjoyed every one that's passed through my safe.

I'm still pretty new to guns and started off wanting to get into long range shooting, but milsurp collecting is more addictive than fkn heroin lol

Canadian Tire on Broadway near Granview in Vancouver has nice BBQ paint ones for $246.39 taxes in. they told me next week sometime they are raising the prices ~$45. they had about 25 left.

There is a petition going around in US right now to allow import of Russian military rifles and ammo (right now only civilian branded stuff is allowed). That would include SKS's. If it passes I don't think we will see any more imported to Canada. And even if we do with US demand, prices will only increase.

There is always the other side of the coin ,

Q. What other , semi auto , centre fire rifle can you buy in Canada for under $250.00 ( made of wood and steel ) ?

Q; How much would a Brand new manufactured ( 2017 ) with the cost of labour , material , machinery , power and shipping ,,, what would this New SKS cost to buy ? ( Keeping the same design and fabrication )

Q; What other Centre fire rifle in Canada that is under $250.00 (about ) that you can buy and buy 1,500 rounds of ammo for $319.00 plus tax (Military Surplus 7.62x39, 123gr FMJ Ammunition, 1500rds per Crate, FREE SHIPPING )

So i think this is part of the reason that we are seeing a slow but steady price increase , supply and demand ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Just find a better deal than a Russian SKS with hardwood stock and 1500rd case of PRC 7.62x39 Surplus Ammo Combo Special FREE SHIPPING OFFER!!!. for $ 529.00 in another semi auto centre fire rifle combo in Canada ,,,,

Just my 2 cents

Oh yeah. Picked up 20 Chinese SKS rifles from Frontier one day. Got rid of all of them about a year too soon lol. Hindsight is 20/20 so I don't beat myself up over that kind of stuff.

Love the sks, but how many does someone really need if your not reselling. I own 2. Both good shooters. I shoot one, the other was in case they became scarce and I needed parts for one.

If they are truly drying up (holding my breath) I'm still not rushing out to get a third. I still can only shoot one sks at a time!
