Apparently GSG will come out with one in 2012

The problem with the ARES carbine is that it is no longer manufactured, presumably due to a lack of demand. My guess is that the price of the unit was too high and as a result interest was low. However, if one could be made in the $300-$400 range, they would likely sell very well. At some point I plan on making a conversion for myself, and would consider making more if I could produce it, profitably, in that range.

*EDIT: I take the lack of production back, apparently they are still being made, and for ~$400 USD.

You could make a pretty attractive one with aluminum extrusions. That way it won't look like something tossed together in a bicycle shop during WW2 with a rail hastily slapped on.

Indeed. No reason why one could not be made using a monolithic upper, similar in shape and design to an XCR or SCAR. By doing that, a multi-position, ambidextrous charging handle could be readily integrated into the design as well. It would make the product very expensive in the short run, however could very well pay off in the long-run. Plenty of ideas to be had, for sure, and I do very much like the way you think...
