Aridus Vs Velcro Side Saddles?

Hey gang,

Looking for some "real world" input here. Has anyone used BOTH of these and which do they prefer and why? Velcro saddles win on price, but will the elastic give over time? Is the Aridus system as robust and as secure as it seems?

Curious can't comment on the Aridus, but they do look awesome. I can say that I found a SJ velcro card that I forgot about that had shells in for at least 5 years and it still holds them perfectly fine and I still use it.
 
I have an Aridus on my 1301, and have used velcro on other guns. Aridus is more secure, but heavier/bulkier. Velcro is simple, easier to swap cards, less expensive, but in my experience more likely to fall off in use. If your life depends on the ammo being there, Aridus. For range use? Save your money and go with cards.

My experience with the SJH card is the same... I've had no problem with them falling off during 3Gun matches over the past 8 years... Great product.
 
I can only comment that I've had no issues with my velcro system and that it was great to be freed from a solid side saddle when it wasn't wanted. I quickly acquired a half dozen or so cards to go with it and am happy. I did use the 'industrial' type of velcro for the main patch that goes on the gun but some pros I've talked to say they use dollar store stuff.
 
I never used the Aridus saddle but fixed side saddle are good for a camp gun/criter control/not shooting more than 6 rounds deal. I also have S&J shotgun cards and they have replaced all hard mounted side saddle for ease of use, cost and efficiency of the range. Never had an issue with the elastics wearing out even with the one I left loaded for test. Prep your surface properly and you are good to go.

If these things existed back then (velcro card), I’d have no issue using those in a real life situations. Way easier/faster to slap on a new card and you can preload them how you want for matches.

Other pro: you can use those as "shotgun pouch", stick them to your rig and reload from where they are like a modern shotgun bandolier.

That’s the right choice, can’t go wrong with another shotgun.

I’ve been using S&J’s and Esstac Velcro cards for 4-5 years and they’re still going strong, I just keep them full of shells and they still hold well.

Simon from S&J Hardware here.
we have made and sold the velcro cards for just over 11years now.
While we are far from the first to do this. We saw alot of crap product on the market..
So over the years we have Improved them.
We were the only one to provide the adhesive Velcro strip wirh them.
The issue is prep and also shelf life of thr adhesive.
We have been providing 3m brand 2inch adhesive Velcro.
It takes about 24hours to bond. As the chemical bond is slow so it has no VOC,s when used.
Now the Aridus.
We were the very first and still 1 of 2 distributors of ardius products in Canada.
Have been working with Adam since he was building these at a local Co Op.
It's a fantastic product and hands down the best shot shell carrier ever made.
It solves all of the issues with tac star and Mesa tactical.
The AK style release and 2pc design was . Mind blowing when I first saw it
But it is still heavy ans also very expensive.
But if money is not a factory Ardius is the way to go

I’m also using 6 round velcro shotshell cards. I used the velcro brand velcro for my 1301T receiver and butt stock. I did a quick wipe down with acetone to ensure good adhesion. Zero issues.

My cards are from (gasp) Amazon. Not the best, but I’ve got a dozen of them so I can load them up ahead of a range day. I’ve had no issues with having rounds working their way out when mounted brass down.
 
How long does the adhesive take to set? I purchased your three pack shot cards with the case a couple months back. When I applied the Velcro the adhesive was barely strong enough to stick at all. So I don’t need up using some no name Velcro I had on hand instead. The shot cards themselves are awesome though.

I put them on rough and tough working or utility or whatever you want to call them guns where the finish is not, to me, much of an issue. I certainly would not do such a thing to a good double or a decent gun that had bluing instead of more modern finishes, not for practice or hobby purposes anyway. And all that said, I don't think so.

As far as the velcro wear issue goes, I've had the hook side of velcro pick up lint and so on that had to be combed or brushed out, but as far as actual wear goes, the stuff is easily replaced.

I’ve removed them on several guns, nothing noticeable. Velcro will of course wear out eventually but S&J uses Milspec stuff, like all reputable manufacturers so don’t worry too much, the stuff on your kids shoes is for sure not, Milspec. I’ve seen cheap armour carriers at work only wear out their Velcro, only after several years of daily on and off.
