Arisaka 99

A 33rd series is early enough that it would have been issued. T-K eventually built much rougher rifles than that one!

If you don't shoot it, you should try. The 99's are generally very accurate shooters.
 
i know almost nothing about these rifles, but im curious as to why the rear of the cocking piece(?) is checkered as opposed to the sides like lee-enfeilds
 
I finally got some 7.7 x 58 FMJ ammo and went straight to the range to warm up my new Arisaka. Wow this thing shoots good!! I think it's my best shooting WW2 rifle!! The target was at 100 m, shooting from a rest of course.
