Arma-Coat illegal in IPSC Production?

Eh, I don't have a problem with the paint/refinishing rule. It's only for Production and there are many good reasons for it. If you want to shoot a pink gun, there are options and you can always shoot standard division and add polka-dots too!

Yes....you guys hit the nail on the head. A whole new shooting sport with no rules to get in your way and where we would all be free to paint our guns any colour we want. Cause that is what it's all about.

That is until the rules that you wanted and worked for you are viewed as stupid and obsolete by others who then decide to start another shooting sport with the rules they want. Pretty soon we can all have our own shooting organization. Oh to dream.

More shooting and less whining about why you quit/gave up/dropped out of IPSC. Blah blah blah

To the OP, yes according to the rule book you are not allowed to arma coat your gun which does seem silly but I'm sure was put in place to stop someone from say applying a gritty grip enhancing finish all over their gun. Some of the rules are a little frustrating but pick a gun get some ammo and give Ipsc a try. I bet you'll love it and if you don't give something else a try until you find your shooting sport. I'm sure whatever sport you pick there will be rules that you won't agree with but because you enjoy it you'll choose to focus on what really matters and not the BS. Do me a favour, when you do find your passion, promote it as much as you can but don't go online and s**t on a sport that wasn't a perfect fit for you like others do.

I am not shating on your sport at all but some of the rules make it hard to just show up and shoot,I would love a IDPA/IPSC mix style game/sport with fewer rules and the High round count of IPSC and lots of steel!

yea not sure how combining a sport with alot of rules about guns and stages (IPSC) with another sport with alot of rules about how you are allowed to shoot stages would morph into a sport with fewer rules...

the rules aren't really that big of deal. Not allowing you to paint your gun is going to stop you from shooting the sport? then you really weren't interested to begin with honestly. People looking for reasons to not shoot a game? Why even bother talking about it. You aren't going to show up even if the rules were the way you like them.

And fwiw, the whole sport does not revolve around production. If you want to shoot IPSC but do whatever you want with the gun there are 4 other division that allow much more freedom to modify. One of them will fit what you are shooting and the level of mods you have done. In Standard you can do pretty much anything but no comps and no optics, and Open allows everything.

But I tend to see Standard (or anything other than Production) as a bigger investment; a bigger "next step".

One of the primary reasons is that you'd really have to be shooting .40 to be competitive. That means that one almost must reload for cost reasons, and components are significantly more pricey than 9mm.

I'm one of many on here to constantly rag on about Pinto, but he does get some things right time to time. That whole USPSA thing with FNH... Good on Pinto for not letting the not-in-production gun get on the production list unlike USPSA.

Sooooo tempted to go on Benos and post a thread asking where I can buy a FNH 9 Competition.

Yeah that kind of thread won't last long, I'm the one that nuked it.
Most people will not be competitive because they don't put the time in. There's no reason you couldn't shoot a Glock, M&P or something similar in 9mm, throw on a magwell and a trigger kit and go have a good time. Most shooters will get much farther ahead putting time into training than worrying about if their gear is "competitive" in a division.

I never said it puts me off from the sport, I am still very excited to get involved and try it out. Just wanted clarification on it. It doen't change my thinking of the sport.

Unfortunately IPSC called it Production Division and not Double Action Division...
No, you can't refinish your pistol.
Does it seem silly, yes.
But it is Production Division and the rules have to try (at some point) to keep the gamers in check.
I think the divisions vision has blurred to the point that a massive rework is needed, just try and keep up with the BS on the GV with whats ok or not and what people have tried.
My guess is the rules are completely known and followed by a minority of RO's- it would be less complex to tech a stock car...
That said, using any of these arguments for not going is ultimately saying you don't want to shoot but whine about not shooting on the net...
News flash:
The winners can win with anything, yes, they're that good.
Thats why theres classes and really the only person your racing is yourself.
In the end your fighting over a 12 cent certificate...
Its fun, its exciting & its what you make of it.
Get a stock gun, buy a simple rig, spend the rest on ammo and entrance fees:)
