Armalite AR180B Frequently Asked Questions, revised Dec. 26/07

^I dunno, but that's a sweet pee stain on your carpet... lol j/k :D

Nah that's just my dirty gun cleaning towel. :) So no one has any comments about the feed ramp thing?

The AR180B is chambered for 5.56mm, not .223 Rem.

Actually I read that for the AR180B the headspace is set to SAAMI specifications (Minimum 1.4636", Maximum 1.4736"), but it has a slightly longer throat to accommodate NATO and military cartridges.

Same difference, all it means is that it's good for both .223 and 5.56.

I popped my AR180B open and had a look. Is your rifle used? I think some one may have already ground the ramps in it.

No this is a new rifle directly from Wolverine. A little bit of the black coating is rubbed away on the feed ramps because of my half-assed attempt at polishing them with some metal polish and a Q-Tip.

The only explanation is that Armalite has started doing it at the factory.

Yah, my 180 fresh from Wolverine has M4 Feed ramps I think... looks the same as Mango's...

Armalite may be doing it at the factory.

So mine should be here tomorrow or the next day. Anyone shooting 75 grain Hornady Amax's in one? What kind of velocity and groupings does one get?

Being a semi-auto with a tupperware receiver, I imagine accuracy is not the greatest past 200 yards?

Tupperware receiver doesn't really have much to with accuracy. The rifle is not meant to be a long range sniper. All it has to do is reliably hit a man sized target at standard combat range.

Hey Guys,

So I posted a bit earlier about getting a new 180B-2. I Noticed alot of space between the Upper and lower reciever. Here is a picture. Does that look like more than the usual or is that fairly normal?

Also here is a final picture of my rifle now. Just needs a better stock and a nice MI forearm and she'll be good to go

I just checked my new rifle from the TSE. It's got the M4'ish feed ramps too. Must be a new addition from armalite.

I havent shot the rifle yet but it looks damn sweet.

Cheers,

Edit to add: I've got a gap between the upper and lower but I think its fairly normal. All in all I love the look and feel of this gun.

Free-Floating Forend?

Does anyone know of a free-floating railed forend that would be possible to mount on an AR180B and still be stable enough to mount a bipod onto? I was looking at the MI railed forend, but it has the plate on the front that attaches to the barrel, and without the plate it would not be stable enough. I want a forend that can be installed without alot of machining. Any ideas?

Thanks!

They have hinted and unofficially said they are making one, but I've never seen anything. They drop the odd hint over at AR15.com on occasion, saying things like, "As for metal lowers, wait a bit".

Don't know too much about free floats for the 180B but I will tell you this. The MI forend is made for the 180B. Takes nothing to install and is rock solid. (If you have a grinder it takes about 1 hour start to finish) Armedsask and a couple of other guys here have POF forends so you'd have to ask them about the machining involved for those. Alot more than the MI.

Not worth the hassle, get the MI.

To clean my piston I have to remove the gasblock or the whole rail. With the POF rail mod the rifle IS NOT field strippable.
