Armalite AR180B Frequently Asked Questions, revised Dec. 26/07

20 Armedsask :: 4/5/2006 5:57:10 PM

I had Josh at Storm Werkz make me a custom stock adapter a couple months ago, today I finally got around to picking up an M4 stock. You'll notice the adapter puts the stock right in line with the barrel. This also provides a perfect cheek weld with the raises sight of the POF rail.

I didnt really like the original design for exactly that reason...too low. Hey Josh, will you be selling THAT model?

That adapter was a one off done for me. Wether he'll make more, you'd have to ask him.

I figured that was the case that it was a one off.

When I mounted the current adapter and put on a VLTOR tube it sat far too low and I took it off the same day. It wasn't close to comfortable for me. Went back to the ACE AK stock.

So Josh, what's the word on making the other adapter a regular item?

If I get enough call for it I will make a run of the type 3 stock adapters. I did the one for Armedsask as a one off .

bmwhockey, as to your original question of the Stormwerkz adapter fitting properly, it fits just fine on a stock rifle. However, my rifle is far from stock and I require a cheek riser. As such, I had him make me a high mount adapter.

Does that answer your question or am I still missing it?

with Stormwerkz rail and rear sight in place, what kind rings have to be used (low, medium or high) to mount a regular 40MM scope? What are the good rings (perhaps see-through) so the iron sights can be used without taking the scope off.

tnx!!

Well I finally joined the ranks of AR180B-2 owners today. Like may others I am very happy with how professional and awsome Wolverine Supplies were to deal with. I'll post a picture of this sweet beast soon.

Two questions that I do have are regarding some play between the Upper and Lower recievers. (Yes I read the FAQ and didn't find the information anywhere ). My rifle seems to wobble around alot both vertically and horizontally in the locked position. I have also noticed that there is an approximate 1mm gap between the two recievers. Is this normal for this rifle?

Some things I have noticed about the rifle:
* The stock is really cheap feeling. I cant wait until the USA starts putting out export licenses for Magpul stocks again.
* The forearm is much the same. Looking forward to picking up a MI Forearm
* I have a MI Quad scope mount attatched and I can see why people are drilling them or welding them right onto the Upper. I find mine has a very slight amount of play.

Anyone have any recomendations for some Iron sights? I have a EOtech 552 mounted right now which blocks out the IS that came on the rifle. Is the rear sight removable or do you have to buy another one which mounts onto a piccatiny rail?

Look forward to trying this baby out soon.

Cheers

Have you shot it with the scope mount installed yet? I won't back the MI mount but the design tightens up with the recoil of the rifle. Also make sure the mating surfaces are clean before mounting.

This is normal can will not affect accuracy. Some users have slightly bent the back portion of the receiver to more snuggly hold the recoil spring guide rod assembly.

Grab a stock adapter form Stormwerkz, there is a reason so many people do.

The factory sight is welded on. There is no option to add after market sights such as AR15 flip ups without custom modification.

Argh Tactical308, mine hasn't arrived yet! I did call them back the day after they left a message for me, so hopefully I should have it in my fiendish little hands tomorrow!

EDIT: NM, lots of extra info on the base from this link off of the website:

Woohoo I got my AR180B today! I have three quick comments/questions.

1) I've seen this picture on the board about cutting your own M4 feed ramps. Looks cool, and I was thinking about doing it:

This is a picture of my disassembled rifle. I'm having trouble telling the difference. Where has metal been removed in the above picture?

2) Can someone please confirm I'm putting the extractor assembly back together properly?

Here are the parts:

I put the tiny piece of metal in the spring so that the wider ends match up, then shove the wider end into the hole in the extractor:

Then I put the O-ring around it and reattach it to the bolt:

3) Is there anything tricky about taking the ejector out of the bolt besides for needing a tiny punch? I want to be able to get at the ejector spring because Armalite has said that if empties are nailing poor lefties (like me) in the face then snipping a coil off of the ejector spring will probably make it eject forward instead of backwards.
