Armalite AR180B Stuff

Slapping the bolt handle

So the 180B came today:eek: , after a quick function check, and a fast read over the manual, i pull the bolt the bolt back, and engange the Bolt cath, from inside the magwell. once the bolt was open, instead of pulling it back with my fingers, and lettin her fly forward, i open hand slapped it to the rear and she dissengaged and went forward full steam:D . "Just grazed the leaver....

Now that tripped me out a bit, Does anyone else do this, or just pull her back and let her go. Just wondering if it's hard on the bolt catch, but it takes so little to move it so i'm not quite sure.

Thoughts???

:)

You know what? i'm in the same boat as you, i can't make up my mind about anything with my 180B. But i did see an entry level scope at marstar. 3x9x30, with a range esitimating battery powered red dot. Now i'm not sure what they mean by that, but i'm thinking the dot get's smaller in the scope the farther you move your sight down range. "i'm guessing" but it only makes sense, because you wouldn't want a fat ass dot at:rolleyes: 100yds.

The nice thing about the Stormwerkz QD rail is that you could have several of them, one with glass and one with a red dot, etc, depending on the application. I have some glass for mine but I am gonna get an Eotech or Aimpoint eventually.

I just zeroed the irons on mine last time at the range and it was doing well without either of us really trying to group. Anybody else try and shoot well with the irons on a rifle before they scope it?

I am currently in the process of trying to decide on a scope power, something between 3-9x - 8.5-25x, it's so hard to decide! Lately I have just been shooting with the irons (shot it about 3 times so far :) ) but I can't wait to get it scoped because I am shooting all over the place with the irons ;)

Today was my first day out with the 180b, and i was also all over the place with the irons. Justhave to find the sweet spot with the appature.

I use a 6X40 on my 180-b for anything over 80 yards with 75gr .223 or the 55gr winchester the federal 50 gr I just use my eotech they go all over the place anyways it seems :)

Ok, so i switched to the small opening rear peep on the 180B today at the range, what a difference it made, it was bang on at 100yds every time. Special shout out to the boys who helped me with my mag issue:redface: , it all works well now.

Secondly, i painted the safe/Fire lettering on both sides, like buddy off of AR15.com, very HK looking now:cool: , and breaks up the total black look of the rifle.

Today i blasted 90:) rounds out of her, at 100yds, i got at best, a 1 and 1/4 inch grouping, and it could be an inch with proper technique, breathing, ect "not drinking 2 timmies double tripples before the range". I found it to be very solid compared to the C7A2, (the only other rifle in the same class ive used).

After 2 day's now with my new AR180B, i'm pampering it and cleaning to spec and using break-free really brings out it's beauty...... It's got great potential, and as far as looks and accuracy, both can be improved signifigantly.

I'll post some pic's of my lettering when i figure out how to post pic's.

Since this thread is about 180B stuff

I am finally nearing the end and Armedsask can't call it a dingle berry any more, a turdette maybe but not a willnot:p

So far:
ACE skeleton folder but I also have a Tapco T6 for it as well
Stormwerkz scope mount
Tapco SCP-T168 3x9x40 illuminated mildot
Midwest Industries Inc quad rail forearm (McTar 180-1)
Beamshot Tac Light and Laser sight w/pressure switch
Vertical fore grip (I forget what make, I have lots)

I love the 180B. She shot well at the range and gopher smokin' before I started this new project. Because I changed the forearm I will have to re-zero the scope and align the laser sight but I don't foresee any problems.

One thing to keep in mind if you plan to buy a MWI forearm for your 180B. Have access to a bench grinder. As the guide rod has to be modified and though a hack saw will work, a better and cleaner job is done with a grinder.

The install took a little over an hour including the grinding. You will have to remove the front sight completely to fit the lower assembly. That is no big deal because when you re-assemble you will see that everything fits perfectly.

I am extremely impressed with the fit and finish of this product. For those with 180Bs, this is your first mod:D

Here's some pics:

Just installed and trying to figure outwher to put stuff

I'm taking her out tomorrow to sight in and will keep you guys posted. And yes, I know I need new optics. I have a Gen II 3 power night scope w/IR coming:dancingbanana:

Turf, ditch the knob thing on the cheek rest, it does not work.

Drill some slots in the front and back, and use zip ties. It will hold that thing on a thousand times better and allow you to more it forward.

Lettering my stock 180B pics.

Ok the following pics are my first attempt at painting anything on a rifle befor, but as stated befor i seen someone else do it to their's, and i was going to give it a shot so here it is.

Procedure i used.

-Fine tip paint bush, :D
-Fill the lettering with even amount of paint , blob it on so it's bright red or white fully covering and even spilling out of the lettering, then wipe it over gently with a paper towel dampend in Turpintine. Just gently, and the excess paint will wipe away, it will leave the lettering full and bright:runaway: , and it will look sharp. If you try and just free-hand paint it, without wipeing it, it's hard.

Took about 30 min, and about $9 in raw materials. The turp did not hurt the finnish at all, and it did an excellent job of prepping the surface befor i painted it.

Skinn, the lettering looks great and will give it a go myself.

Armedsask, yeah I know that knob sucks big time. For all the great products ACE has, you'd think they could offer something better. And wouldn't you know, I have some black zip ties.:dancingbanana: Thanks for the suggestion. I was wondering how to fix it.

hahahahahhaha

it looks like its faked but the shirt logo wraps around a little bit!

What kind of man would wear a shirt like that!?!?!?!?

Took her out today and after some minor adjustments to scope and laser sights was able to do 2 MOA at 100 yds. using fmj. I will be going out again tomorrow to fine tune with ballistic tips (which I use in all of my firearms, semis and pumps)

Got home and stripped it down for a good cleaning. Here's some pics of it folded after cleaning.
