So they dropped the price to an almost reasonable level. I'm considering picking one up just because. Let me set things straight here, I don't need another hunting rifle. I would be buying it because I want another hunting rifle. Practicality isn't an issue, really so buying it based on game I may hunt is not a big deal. Although I don't want a magnum, I really don't want to get one in .30-06 either. We all know how useless that cartridge is anyways. :p

So what will it be then? The cartridges are listed up top, but I already have a .223, .243 and 6.5x55. Repeats aren't required. I've had a love affair with the .270 in the past and don't own one now. But I also get arroused when the topicof 7mm-08 comes up. (Pun intended) I've owned several .308's before, but never in a bolt action so I've never given it a fair chance. I had one .25-06 and found it to be similar to the .270 in most regards. A .22-250 isn't big on my wish list either, but I've never owned one. This rifle will be hunted with, but what I'm not sure. It doesn't much matter either. I really just want to try one out and get one while their cheap. So, what will it be?

I think that misprint on the 7mm-08 has been there for a while, if you look the stainless is cheaper, thats why its probably a misprint

Davey olde boy ................... you mean this thread? :D

A little over a year ago, I took a steel bar to the head at work. It knocked me stone cold, and left me with a concussion. After that, thanks to one thing or another, I never really had much of an opertunity to shoot very often with repeated recoil. A month after it happened, I traded my only real rifle in, an '06 because the recoil gave me a headache. Well today, I put two boxes through my twelve gauge, and that headache has been back ever since. About nine hours now. One time in between, after a fairly good day duck hunting, the same thing. It's now apparent that this is all connected to a degree. I love the boomers, and am now able to start shooting again, but I'm a little worried that my abilities will be limited. I look foward to trips to the range, but not if these headaches will be a common thing. Any suggestions for a broken hearted, with head pounding gun nut? I'm never going to abandon this great sport of ours, but I'm not prepared to go through this everytime. Maybe it's time to downsize my cartridge choices.

A .338 Federal sends a 180 grain bullet at 26-2700 FPS. Or at least according to my new Nosler #6 manual. I have a feeling recoil won't be too bad. As I've said, I want it just because, and do not need to justify it any more than that.

By the way you guys, are you like stalkers or somthing? I've had some underwear go missing lately, your not using them for coffee filters or anything wierd are you? :p

I don't get it Pharaoh, you usually provide advice on various things, "some" is good advise I might add. Caliber choices, rifle choices, but now you seek advise to make your own choice....seems a little weird to me  Especially because your poll includes everything from a .223 to a .270. It this helps, I have two rifles chambered in 7-08, they don't especially do anything special for me. I find the 7-08 is a good deer catridge, too big for varmints or 'yotes, marginal for moose and NOT suited for elk at all. For sheep?...meh.

222/223 - fun little plinkers. Maybe a 25-06, but the t3 only comes with a 22" barrel, and that's too short for such a high intensity cartridge.

T3

I picked 6.5x55mm only 'cause .260 wasn't an option. I'd also like to have one in 7mm-08. And .270 would be another one I'd consider....
