Another illogical piece of the the firearm act. The AT-22 was black, had a collapsible stock and a take-off barrel so it was a 'bad' gun and couldn't even be grandfathered or made a prohib. A total loss for owners. A Ruger 10/22 could be set up the same way... particularly with the short barrels that are now available or with the Butler Creek take-off barrel and the folding stock but its ok. Just about as intelligent as the 1/4" barrel difference on handguns that create the 12(6) class. The AT-22 had the option of having a solid stock installed but even in that format it was a 'no-no'.
