ATRS Modern hunter specs, pics and range reports

I got very very lucky and was first on the phone and snatched up a cancelled build that someone backed out on, so maybe call Shawn and put your name down on a cancellation list maybe? Could be that there are other guys that may want to get out from their deposit, with what's happening here in AB right now in the oil field. Just a thought...

Ok, I have a question... (I just went through the whole thread, if I missed the answer, sue me... I tried)

How long would it take to get a Modern Hunter? If I ordered it today? (ballpark...)

The guys at ATRS would know better, but it looks like the Barrels from Proof are coming so delivery times will be more predictable.

When i ordered mine maybe 2 months ago i was told January 2016 for 3rd production run. Mine is CF barrel and Cerakote so it might be a little longer, who knows.

I can wait, i got plenty of other toys to play with :)

The 3rd production run which will start to deliver in late December depending on where you were in the run. At this point there are only a few spots left as we keep the runs to around 75 guns per run. An order placed now (June 25 2015) would be part of this production run but would probably have delivery in late January or early February 2016. The 4th production run has not been slated yet.

Another quick update on my load development, I finally got a decent 100yard group (i say this loosely). 3 shot group was .874" but i did have a flier that opened it up quit a bit but I am going to fine tune a bit now. The best load for my 260 as of now is 129 lr accubound H4350 with 43 grains at 2668 FPS. My plan is to do a group at 42.8 and 43.2 as well. At 42.5 and 43.5 it starts opening up alot and the further it gets away from 43 the group just keeps getting unpredicable and wild. This is the only node i have found from 41-45 grains. i will also try to see if i can't fit a slightly longer coal in the mag, i have been loading to 2.8 which is damn near all it has room for. I am starting to suspect that my problem is that the chamber is cut to 2.905 which leaves a long jump with LR style bullets, had i have know this i may have checked to see if they could have cut a shorter chamber for me to accommodate vlds from a magazine. Anyways will update more when i can. I have about 80 rounds through it in load development now and no failures of any kind.

OK I just spewed coffee out my nose. That is almost as funny as the talking Tom vids. Screw the groups! Has anyone shot an animal with one? And I'm going to be in Cow town in a few weeks, can I come over and have a preview ATRS?

Not sure if any game has been harvested to date. Doubtful seeing as we missed hunting seasons so far. Hopefully come fall this will change.
We have several examples to be checked out, fondled and generally drooled over at the shop, so come on in and check them out.

I almost hesitated to post this as I'm kinda new here, but when I read this I immediately thought of the group conflict on this thread http://www.chuckhawks.com/practical_accuracy.htm . For the record, my order is in for one of these guns( its going to be a great Xmas thfis year). It is called the modern hunter, not the modern paper puncher.right? I can't wait!

That's a good article. My MH can shoot 1/2 MOA all day long. Wait, I don't have one. Maybe when the modern varminter comes around I'll pony up.
I'd like to see someone start a thread like we've seen in several others; testing the shooter and rifle with 5, 5 shot groups that must meet a certain level of precision with pictures to prove it. It's always very interesting to see the results. I would if I had a MH.

I've never posted pictures before.

18.6 varmint. And 15 fortis. The handguard is very light. I have a small 1913 rail on the bottom (key mod attached) for the bipod. Not 100% if I'm going to keep it on there though. I was mostly posting the photo to show the clearance on the xcr-m mags and a simple way to add the length if you find mag changes too difficult. Some might think the extention is cheesy but it's actually pretty solid. I'm also very impressed with the adjustability of the stock.
