ATRS Modern hunter specs, pics and range reports

Ditto although I think either way its the learned skills and not so much the end result

My salf I'm a northern BC Hunter I really shoot pass 100 yards most of gun ranges don't go much past that in northern bc
But it would be good to work on reaching out to the 6.5CM point of aim I think it's just past 300 yards I would have to look it up
and my personal goal is to get to do it consently as I'm going elk hunting this year
If I can swing it I realy like to do one Alberta hunt this year ether elk , antelope or goat I have never hunted any of them yet but hope to do one
It will be a fun exercise thers no such thing as a bad day fishing ,shooting or hunting
I know a lot of you guys don't think of 300 yard shoot as long range but it is for us older bush monkeys lol

300yds is still a long bloody ways away.....I still get very intimidated when I see how far away 500, 700, 1000 yds is......then I look through one of my scopes and it's all OK again!!!!

Your MH in 6.5 or .338 will be great out to 300.

Now you gotta get some appropriate glass for those beauty rifles.....

"Sale" is a relative term.....!!!!

On if the ultra shorts, or the hunting line would be great on a MH.....

Question for Carver (or the ATRS boys) - when you swap the upper to change calibers, does the scope and rail go with it?

The scope rail is an integral part of the upper, so you can leave the optic on the upper and not have to keep re-zeroing it when that upper goes back onto the lower.

With good rings you can move the optic back and forth between uppers with little adjustment required if you record the turret location for each caliber.

I'd be getting a bobro mount if I was in your shoes Carver.....

The problem with ALL QD mount systems is that they rely on spring tension, which is never a constant, to lock the optic in place.
On conventional rings, and specifically close tolerance rings like ours, torque can be duplicated each and every time the mount is removed. The other benefit is that the optic can be placed where YOU need it, not where the mount dictates the optic will have to be placed.

I hear you, but if you're moving it back and forth between two identical upper/rail combos, then that shouldn't be an issue.

From what I've read in the AR world guys swap scope back and forth regularly with with bobro's and AD's with little to no loss of zero - at least close enough to hit the boiler room of a deer/moose at 100yds.

I agree, it's not a perfect system, but it also saves carrying a toolkit around with you all the time.

Just a simple torque driver. Vortex offers a very nice one HERE.

Now I got the thin 6.5CM barrel to replace the big heavy barrel that's on it now I will see if the nightforce SHV will work
the good news is I'm getting use to shoting sticks
How much is a set of rings that will fit Nightforce SHV?

What is the approx overall length of the modern hunter?

I know it comes with a few different barrel and stock options, I would be looking at the magpul ctr stock and 18.6" or 20" barrel.

Just after a rough guesstimit as I haven't been able to find any information posted.

Mine is 39.75". That is with a PRS stock slightly extended, 18.6" Proof barrel & ATRS muzzle brake.

Just packing 6.5CM it's going on a 2Lb diet (new thin 6.5CM barrel)
Be coming back with the 338 upper as well

Just need to decide whether to mail or purolator
Anyone hear any thing about the mail strike?

Canada Post and their union agreed to a sort of 'truce" back on July 8th or 11th to push back any lockouts or strikes by 30 days. This is the 8th or 11th depending on if it counted as Friday or Monday, but either way you are in the clear to ship by Canada Post to us (assuming 5-8 business day delivery), but we will definitely need to keep a close eye on that situation coming up.

I mailed the upper yesterday and was told 3 Business days for delivery
Sent out E-Trasfer today for the cost of rebarrelling and shipping the two uppers
We might have to come up with an alternative method to sending back the two uppers Depending on what's hapning with the strike

Just my upper as it is just over 4Kg ! (No optics or accessories or Bolt carrier That's just the upper)

Just to heavy for shooting off hand

What is the baseline weight of te MH? I can't find it any where. The barrel weights are on the Web site which helps.

Is it possible to install an ambidextrous safety post production?

The absolute lightest (and most expensive) it can be is about 8lbs with a proof CF barrel, and CF handguard, and KFS rear stock.

I'm told very clearly that there's no need to go with more than the 18.6" barrel as little can be gained in terms of velocity with longer tubes.

Not sure about the post production safety install....I'm sure Shaun or Rick will pipe in on that.

The Fortis is actually lighter, but only marginally. Certainly not worth it considering it is colder to hold in winter than the PRI, louder than the PRI due to branches/twigs snagging and "tinging" the metal, and lastly the Fortis flexes under bipod load to the point it may contact the gas block affecting barrel harmonics. For these reasons I believe the PRI is the way to go on the MH.

In the case of the barrel, as GGG mentioned, the longer barrel vs the 18.6" only adds about 30fps in the case of .308, not sure about the other calibers.

The PRI is very pleasing to the touch, and wont be frigid cold in the dead of winter.

The ATRS boys told me that ALL of their personal ones are 18.6".... that sold me. Well, sort of. I ended up with a 20" CF barrel, but only because they had an extra and it got me my MH earlier. I should weigh mine for data for everyone.....
