ATRS Modern hunter specs, pics and range reports

What is the baseline weight of te MH? I can't find it any where. The barrel weights are on the Web site which helps.

Is it possible to install an ambidextrous safety post production?

It is not recommended, we can install any ambi-safety you supply, but best to have it done during the initial build.
The trigger, safety, and retention block are all working in close balance to function in a safe and reliable manner.

The absolute lightest (and most expensive) it can be is about 8lbs with a proof CF barrel, and CF handguard, and KFS rear stock.

I'm told very clearly that there's no need to go with more than the 18.6" barrel as little can be gained in terms of velocity with longer tubes.

Not sure about the post production safety install....I'm sure Shaun or Rick will pipe in on that.

Actually, the lightest possible build is a Proof CF barrel OR light contour stainless (same weight), the Fortis 12" handguard, and the Basic Collapsible stock.
However personally I think the Magpul CTR is an upgrade worth the extra ounce or two even if you're trying to keep it as light as possible.

8lbs??

Hmmm.... Well carverk with talk like that, I might just have to un-ship those packages we just sent out the door. ;-)

cool I was only Teasing you Shaun Haahaa
But I'm realy happy the uppers are on the way

I wouldn't have answered like that if I didn't know you were joking. Hope you enjoy them, that 6.5 light contour is a huge difference.

Hell its gotten me in trouble more then once at work and at home haha
I bet losing 2 lb has made a huge difference going to be like a whole new rifle thank you Shawn
I will be getting them just in time for a deer trip so it means a lot to me
Plus I have other hunting trips planed for this fall hopping with the Lighter configuration will work for me

The PRI CF hand-guard, do you lose much durability compared to the metal options? Say if you smacked it pretty good on a rock if you fell over or something, would it crack easily?

Also I see some people saying the difference between a 18.5" and a 20" isn't worth it, is there really no effective accuracy increase? (I'd be looking at the light contour SS)

I'm told by the guys who built them, the ATRS boys, no. I trust them implicitly.

Carbon Fiber when done right can be stronger than aluminum or steel. Proof Research proved this point when they obliterated a cinder block with one of there CFW barrels and then proceeded to dust it off, install it, and shoot an itsy bitsy group with it.

The difference of 1.5" of barrel length is the 20" barrelated makes your rifle 1.5" longer and allows you to brag that you get 30fps more velocity then the guys with the 18.5.:dancingbanana::runaway:cou:

The majority of us in the shop are running the PRI handguard and I think I can speak for the others also when I say I've got zero doubts about the product at all, that handguard is pretty damn strong.

The only thing you gain with the longer barrel is a little bit of velocity, and not much at that. From our FAQ section on our website:

This rifle is based on a direct gas impingement design. This means that after the bullet has passed the gas port, there is a port for the pressure behind the bullet to bleed off into in order to cycle the rifle. So the speeds gained by a longer barrel in a bolt gun are not going to be the same as a gas operated gun. Significantly smaller gains in bullet velocity are seen with additional barrel length on the Modern Hunter. To keep its non-restricted status an 18.6” barrel is the shortest it can be.

Ok thanks for the info!

Gonna be placing a order in a month or two, I want to make it as light as I can so I can carry it around for hunting purposes, gonna go with the 18.5 then.

A buddy and I had the chance to get our MH's out today. I got a first round hit on a 350 yard gong and only missed once the rest of the time I shot at it. Once my buddy finished dialing in his scope he was hitting the gong every time too. Including 4 consecutive hits while standing without a rest.

The Modern Hunters are great rifles! Hopefully my MV is ready by the long weekend.
