As the title say. I am curently confused about an atrs build that will not cycle anymore.

Once the rifle was completed, I went out and tested it. It ran good for about 80 rounds then the gas block came loose by the heat and moved forward out of aligment.

I ordered a dimpling jig to secure the gas block.

Tried the rifle again but this time the rifle will not cycle at all. Tried the gas block in the old position (all the way back) to see if the rifle would cycle but it did not. I fumbled with it some time but finally resigned. The gun is a single shot

Tried to blow air into the tube, no obstruction

the bolt looks fine and the key is not loose.

Rifle spec : faxon gunner 5.56, stag arms nickel boron BCG, BCM low profile gas block.

Any suggestions or recommendation for a gunsmith ?

****Problem solved. There was obstruction into the gas key****

Check any joints for gas leakage/bypassing, resulting in insufficient energy making it to the operating mechanism.

Dimpling? If that involved punching the gas block in situ, it may have distorted enough to leak around the barrel.

Blowing air into the tube? Air passing in to barrel, or simply not being blocked? Again, air leak between the barrel and the bolt, suspect. Can you apply air to the barrel to confirm that the system is passing air AND is airtight front to back?

Some ideas to check, anyways.

Is there a blockage inside the gas key? The gas needs to travel down inside the BCG to act on the back of the bolt.

It was indeed a blockage in the gas key. A primer from the cheap chinese ammunition I was using for fonction test jammed into it. I managed to remove it with a left hand drill bit.

Tested the rifle with american eagle ammunition this time. Worked good with consistent ejection.

Big thanks to you Rifleman762!!

I’ve never found the need for dimpling a barrel.

I put a dab of blue locktite on the set screws and it hasn’t moved .
That’s about 150 rounds through my Stag 10 .308

So in the end you should apologize to ATRS for this posting as it had NOTHING to do with their products. Also possibly request the mods delete it as Guntech suggests the title is very misleading.

I assumed it was a receiver set built by the buyer, not ATRS when I first read the title.

Thats half the fun

No need to get so excited about this.

I only wanted to use a title that may be useful to other owner of those set(aka easy to search with key word of the brand of receiver they have bought). I am pretty sure we are many to buy them and I dare to say that most of us are new at building rifles.

I don't feel that I need to apologise for this at all. It may be your conception of life to see everything offensive.

ATRS is a great company and have dealt with them in the past.

Guy buys a top-shelf piece of equipment, hangs mix-matched stuff off of it and shoots cheapo ammo through it. Then wonders what the problem is.

Hurts my head.

What’s wrong with the parts he used? These are only sold (up until recent orders) as receiver sets. He seems to have used reasonable quality parts at that.
