Attempted Fraud - Phoney PAL

An attempted purchase was made and the person provided the following: Onur Caka PAL 12248031, which has ben confirmed by the Firearms Centre to be not valid. This is the first time that an attempted fraudster has used a fake PAL.

Beware!
Can you tell us more? Was it a fake hard-copy PAL or did he give a random number on a web sale?

He provided a scan of a made-up PAL.
Like this? This is what someone gave me as proof of PAL.

Good catch would be if the cops actually did something about it.... so many scammers in Canada today many of them in high positions and others who are new to the game so to speak and happy to be in a land of great opportunity.

Was it reported to police?

What jurisdiction did this occur?

I don't know if the RCMP has a duty to self report or rather follow up on this type of fraud, maybe Peter will fill us in on it from his end?

Likely a cyber crime, not sure what jurisdiction that would be.

It would be nice to think that people attempting to fraudulently source weapons or ammo in Canada would attract interest from the Police after being flagged by the Police (CFC), but I would not be shocked to find out that much in the same way that EMT fraud is hard to deal with for some reason that a case like this would not result in automatic action beyond flagging the transaction as fraudulent.

Sad to say, but In the current world of "fake news" the lazy move would be to create false stories about succesfull sting operations by the RCMP that never even happened..... better then doing nothing.

You’re assuming the simple act of entering incorrect information into the verification system flags a fraud. I doubt that is the case, as there will be fat finger errors daily.

The CFP and CFO’s aren’t enforcement agencies, either, and sometimes information sharing is slow or non-existent with enforcement units.

Clearly there needs to be some basic checks before the tactical teams are deployed.... mistakes is what people do best!

Your point on the inability of agencies or health authorities for that matter to collect and co-ordinate information, in the information age is well founded! It's mind blowing how much data is being collected and analyzed by some private and state actors, and then you go to the local clinic and they ask you when your last tetanus shot was and even though it was administered at the same clinic that you have been using for the last 25 years there is apparently no record of your previous injections available?

No doubt we will see "improvements" on all level soon enough with the fancy new thinking machines.... hopefully it's all for the better but the way we are mostly divided today and acting as child like citizens we will probably end up right where we belong..... :(

The police and Govt don't give two $hits about fake or stolen PALs
A few years back when i got robbed and my truck and a bunch of crap got stolen I called Mirimachi to report the stolen PAL and they said we will send you out a new one
They also said that it will be the same number on the PAL as the stolen one and I questioned them about it saying you don't get the same number on a new credit card after someone uses it illeagally
They told me that it doesn't matter with the PAL
Our system is a joke

The CFO’s won’t even openly share information with police for enforcement purposes in some cases. It’s really weird.

And yes, I was asked if I still had my yellow vaccination card used when I was a kid. Lol. No.

There's a huge disconnect between organizations. But if they don't care about fake or stolen PALs. Then that's a problem.

It reminds me of the whole Microsoft email with the single use code. Saying if you did not request it, don't worry someone may accidentally put in my email. Or they tried to hack my account.
