ATT's what you need to know

Ok, here's how this whole thing works. First of all, you require a membership at a registered range. This is a newer requirement, as how would you target shoot if you do not have a membership. Your membership is usually only good for a year and they do spot checks to confirm. Your LTATT is good for ALL restricted firearms in your possession. They do not list your firearms on your LTATT due to every time you bought and sold one, you would need to be issued a new one.If you borrow one from your buddy (pick it up at the range), your LTATT covers it too. Your LTATT covers you from your residence to and from: a registered Range, a licensed gun smith, and all border crossings. If you purchase a new firearm be it from a sporting goods store or gun smith, you REQUIRE a STATT to pick it up and bring it home. Your LTATT does not cover this. You require a STATT if you move to another residence and pick up or take a restricted to or from the post office. Now the post office GREY area. It was a package, how do I know what was in it? Well, you should be responsible enough to know, due to tracking numbers and when you expect it to arrive. It is your license, you decide. Your LTATT is good for the term of your RPAL license. When my license expires, so does my LTATT. You must renew both.

In order to obtain an ATT you must be a member of a club as they are the ones who sponser you. In order for you to obtain an ATT through the club you must first posess a restricted firearm or the CFO will not issue an ATT. Whether or not you belong to a club is is not relative, if you are licenced you may purchace. You will recieve an TATT if you are a private individual or club sponsered to take your purchace home. Your club ATT do's not give you transport from place of purchace to your residence.Your status will be collector if you are not sponsered by a club.Your new gun will stay at home until you are a club member with sponsership. As far as giving up your rights go's you do not have to waive anything. If an officer asks to inspect it is up to you to accept or not. It must be a firearms officer NO ONE ELSE ! not just Joe Copper. You can demand a show cause hearing for them to obtain a warrant which they must notify you of the date and then the onus is on THEM to convince a Judge why they need to inspect your premise and they got have more than "just feeling like it" for the judge to issue a warrant to inspect your premise. I do the ATT's for my club and a few other things too like making bill C68 and updates night time reading. Good luck and dont give up an inch. ( they'll take your ruler and smack you with it)

forgot to say this is in Ontario. And if they do get a warrant you cant interfere but you don't have to help alot either

So do you need to list your firearms, clubs, dates, and times on the application, or leave it all blank?
I just applied for a LTATT last week and got it in the mail on Monday..
I filled it out according to this: http://www.1ofthefew.com/ftp/LongTermATT.pdf
The result was: All Ranges in BC/Yukon, to and from all gunsmiths for repair etc and to border crossings.. valid for 5 years, daily from 00:00 to 00:00

What did they specify for certs etc?
Firearms registration certificates? Leave it empty. If you limit yourself with a list, you might get a more restricted ATT than what you could have receive.
"The holder must be in possession of the Registration Certificate(s) for the firearm(s) being transported" it states on the LTATT.
I didn't fill out anything on the application under certificates (I don't own a restricted one yet)

Regardless of if you own any restricted .. do you have an RPAL? If so then you should fill in that section with the wording I posted before.

Of course I have an RPAL, or they would not have issued me a LTATT
No problem.. but they have done that before by sheer stupidity.. a friend of mine down east was issued such w/o having an rpal... they caught the error a few weeks later mind you.. but still those in charge are not always the brightest of the bunch.
As for your LTATT... be sure to fill it in properly and it will cover all r's you posses with the cert for.. not just own. That way it covers owned, borrowed and new acquisitions as well.
Well, each province's CFO does things differently. BC/YK CFO requires people to obtain a LTATT before they can register their firearm.
But yes, only fill things in that are required. Sometimes less is more.

There should be no reason at all for them to deny it. Since you can legally borrow a firearm in the class you have a license for.
Just want to mention something I came across in obtaining my RPAL and PAL. On the application , for CURRENT SPOUSE, it says that if you don't get a signature prior to sending that they will call them at the phone numnber you provided. This is a bit of a "grey area" I think as when I called they said that because I didn't have the signature, even though I provided a phone number, that my application was deemed incomplete and was likely going to be held up because of it.
If it wasn't for me calling to follow up on the application, which was over 75 days, I'd still be waiting. My fiance just happenned to be home and they talked to her right then and there.
Word of advice ... don't read into anything on the forms. Fill in what they require despite some of the misleading instructins. I was in a RUSH (just really really really excited) and thought "it won't matter".
On a side note, all the people I talked with in the process from processing my PAL, my gun transfer, STATT, LTATT, etc were very helpful and cooperative.

This has been such an eye opening thread. I did everything by the instructions when I applied for my ATT in Montreal, but in Alberta where I now live, it seems a heck of a lot easier to own my pistols.
