ATT's what you need to know

Hi new guy, I live in Ontario - if buying from a store in Ontario, you do not need an ATT if the store is shipping by mail. You do not need to belong to a club to purchase - the seller will ask. You should consider joining a club though.

So, something's been on my mind. Ive got an ltatt, I signed up with a club to get it. Even though it's not a legal requirement, it made it easier.

Now my club always emails me a reminder that it's not valid if the membership expires.

Truth or bs?

While I believe one would have a very solid platform to argue that club or range membership is not a legal requirement (read Cyclones thread), it does not diminish the fact that the Chief Firearms Office has taken the stance that an individual without a valid club or range membership is afoul of their issuance and retention requirements.

My ATT straight up says "The holder must be a member in good standing of an approved shooting club or, the guest of a member of an approved shooting club." Would not surprise me one bit if they used this condition to justify the policy that the condition is required.
Because yeah, the world would grind to a halt if I'm no longer a member in good standing of the club I've never been to...If they try to kick up a fuss about it, they can send me an official statement from the CFO instructing me to transport my guns to that particular range. When they predictably deny that, I've got receipts saved from the other range I go to and by their own statement such things can be used as justification of special ATTs granted to persons who are not members of a approved shooting club.

Ah who am I kidding, it'd never work out between us.

membership is NOT a legal requirement.. and despite the ON CFO's BS.. he cannot make it one. Hence why Myself, Cyclone and others are fighting the CFO.

Simple rule: Policy is NOT law.

Most of them do.. but that does not make such actually legal to require any membership at all. As much as the CFO wishes he could do whatever he wants (and he tries).. he cannot make law.

^ that's exactly what I was thinking.

It says so on my att. I got it while under a club membership.

But as its not a legal requirement is it in fact invalid, should my membership expire?

It is not a legal requirement and despite it the aforementioned condition the CFO would then have to issue a revocation as per FA sec 72. Which can and most certainly should be fought via FA sec 72 (which he will NOT tell you about) and 74.

.......Some excellent information here exposing the "Color of Law"

Has anyone successfully applied for their LTATT in Quebec with these characteristics (which is standard in BC)?

1. Valid for the same length as your PAL (up to 5 years same expiry)
2. Purpose: Target practice at valid club or range
3. Transport TO that is:
a. All approved ranges in your Province
b. All approved gunsmiths
c. The border
4. Frequency: Daily at all times
5. Firearms Registered: see conditions (which then states all firearms which you have certificates for)

Assuming you have a club membership.

Does anyone want to share their LTATT PDF minus their personal details for others here so we can all honour our Quebec CFO with similar forms?

im interested to know about this as well if its possible in QC... my most concern is about all ranges and at any time.

Yea that law 9 is a waste... being ex-military i think i know how to handle a weapon... so its 100% guarantee that with a LTATT you can visit any range in quebec without getting harassed by montreal's finest?

And how can you fight back...

Same here in Bantario.. and the best way to fight back is how Cyclone and I have described many times. Use the prefilled ATT app form posted on cgn (if the link is dead again just let me know and I'll ul it again).. then if they don't issue the ATT as applied for (and in the case of QC include your home range etc due to law 9).. file for a reference hearing. They hate that and believe me there are those willing to help win such against the CFO's

I've heard mixed responses to this scenario, hoping to get some sort of clarification. To preface, I've had my club level ATT for quite some time now, after I've purchased and legally transported a newly acquired restricted firearm from the seller to my home, do I then have to wait for my printed registration certificate to arrive before I can transport that firearm to the range? If not and for some reason, I'm stopped by the police before my registration certificate arrives, how would I go about proving that the firearm does indeed belong to me? If I show both the temporary ATT, which I used to pick up the firearm from the store and has the serial number for that specific firearm, as well as my club level ATT which authorizes the transportation of my restricted firearms to the range and back, will that suffice?
